uhhh..how did Nash affect his rebounding? by missing shots so he could collect the board? Also how did he affect his turnovers exactly? I would say it's not so much Nash's magical talismanic presence as the fact that Amare's usage rating is at a career high.
I don't know why you have this need to lift Yao and pull Tmac down, both of them tried to win for this team and failed miserably, Yao Ming due to his health and Tmac due to not having a heart. You don't need a genius to figure out Tmac made Yao Ming better, Tmac was the team's best passer and he was the only one able to give the ball to Yao Ming exactly where he needed it. However this topic is probably out of scope of the thread, and posting about Yao Ming could bring the haters and Yofs out of the woodwork. Back on topic, I think the main reason for Amare's resurgence is because of Felton and Amare's improved face-up game. Amare can't really create his own shot but Felton is becoming Nash lite and can get Amare the ball in the right places. Not only that Amare's face up game is starting to catch fire he's deadly with the ball on his hands.
All the people on this board that said Amare needs an elite PG when his name came up in in trade talks with Houston FAILED.
Amare's kicking the validity of this thread each and every game he plays. I think he's on a 30+ pts streak of late his last 5 or so games. Nash and the suns are sucking ...and our NY pick's value is tanking and fast
I agree on the rebounding, but you don't think it's obvious how Nash would affect Amare's turnovers? Playing with a PG who always gets you the ball exactly where you need frees you from the responsibility of creating your own shot all the time. Once you have to create, you start turning the ball over more.
He doesn't rebound that well for a PF. He still plays absolutely no defense. And he's still not as good as Pau Gasol.
Thank you Mr. Hindsight Bias( JK- you're swell). But um.. I'm going to go out on a limb and call you slightly misinformed. Raymond Felton is New York's starting pg and is scoring on average 18.4pts per game while dishing out 8.7 assists on an sub-average night. Accumulating a double-double in nearly over half the games played in this season w/ Amare. Just something to think about no?
& Consider this.. Since New York's 8 game win-streak, Raymond Felton has been playing double-double figures (points/assists) in 6 of the last 8. More flavoring to the food for thought.
I'm not saying Amare is a great defender but his defense is much improved this year, especially in the 4th quarter when the game is on the line. He is also 8th in the league in blocked shots...
The fact that he didn't do this before he got to NY kind of detonates your argument (unless you are arguing that it's magical coincidence that he's playing better). Have you ever seen Amare play? He does a lot more than just catch Alley-Oops off the pick and roll.
Let's be fair to Felton. Before going to NY, he wasn't even playing in the NBA. He was playing for the Bobcats.
Amare was such a dominate dunker early in his career that unfortunately for him people that dont really watch the NBA thinks that is all he can do and that he needs a PG to feed him the ball. Well go watch his games and you will see he has a jump shot that is just money. He's a threat catching the ball 15 feet away from the basket because he can either shoot or take his man off the dribble. He's got a excellent face up game and has a quick first step. I would say his only weakness as a PF offensively is his back to the basket game but even that he's still so explosive he can often get over other guys.
I think New York was very lucky Bosh wanted to be a 3rd fiddle and went to Miami. I don't see Bosh doing what Amare is doing now and carrying NY to a winning streak. Amare > Bosh
