I didn't list the GS deal because I just don't think it plausible for Morey to be remotely interested in Monta and Biedrins. Not without a major deck reshuffling on this team and the Yao wave would be big enough. You bring in Monta, you gotta make another major move. And they love Martin's efficiency. They would hate Monta's inefficiency. I wished I could agree that NJ would give up Lopez for him but don't see them doing that, ever. Not even if Yao came back and started playing 30 mpg effectively until the trade deadline.
i agree that morey wouldn't have any interest in dealing with the warriors. i simply stated that i would bet they had interest in yao. as for the nets, it might not be as tough a sell as one would think. if yao proves he can play around 30mpg, i think they may go for it. as i stated the owner wants to win right now, and they are seriously desperate to sell tickets. a friend of mine is a higher-up in the sales department. says the front office is considering making moves to sell tickets. take into account yao's global popularity and the large asian market that is in the NY area... even if they didnt want to do brook for yao straight up, i believe they would consider a package from the rockets. the rockets have enough assets to get a deal done if need be. of course, i make this argument rhetorically. i don't think the rockets will ever think of trading yao. i don't even think moving him for brook is the best way to rebuild. i'd much rather play the draft lotto, but thats getting off topic.
This seems to fly in the face of what we've seen and perceived so far from NJ. They were allegedly willing to give up Favors for Melo but they were reportedly not willing to part with Lopez. Then the rumor a few days ago that the Russian owner is wanting them to lose to increase their lottery fare. I know that rumors are just that rumors and most of them are falsely put out by the people who are actually trying to cover up what their true intentions are. I don't see what NJ has that would be of any interest to us outside of Favors and Lopez either. And if they were reportedly only willing to give up Favors for a re-signed Melo, can't see why they would be willing to give up that much for Yao.
I agree. His greatest value is his contract, which means you'd be taking back longer contracts, in return, and right before the new CBA.
Thats crazy if you think the rockets will trade him as an expiring contract. The man still has a lot of playing time in him. He will bring so much to our team, once everything is situated.
Of course, he's worth more than an everyday expiring, especially if you don't need him to play big minutes every day. Remember Bill Walton with the Celtics? Umm, they killed the Rox in the finals? He's Bill Walton of 1986, plus the expiring aspect. Plus, the marketing to the Chinese. I'll bet the Nets' new owner appreciates that; let's trade him to NJ!
Just because you can trade someone on a BBall message board doesn't mean it works in real life. You know, the pesky problem of needing TWO sides to come to an agreement. And the pesky problem of other GMs not wanting someone who basically hasn't played in more than a year. Reality tends to get in the way of things..
If he proves he can play around 30mpg, why do WE want to trade him away? I still haven't heard from the "trade Yao" crowd a satisfactory answer to this question. If we don't think Yao can play meaningful basketball (and thus want to trade him), what makes other GMs think he can?
I want him to stay. Anyone that would be more valuable - from a basketball perspective, not from a money perspective - is not attainable for him, in my opinion. So I don't even want to speculate about it.
Repped. This just hit the issue right on the head. There's no one we can get who will be better if he is healthy, and if he's not healthy there will be no one to obtain anyways.
No sane GM would give up valueable assets for a washedup injured former star.I dont see the Rockets even contemplate of trading him. You'r not getting value in return so just wait till the offseason and hope to re-sign him for 5 million a year.
just to speculate - there might have been a way to work a 3 team deal with yao and picks + young talent to Denver, Mellow to NJ, and Lopez here but if anthony really did say he will only sign an extension w/ the Knicks, that's not an option. and anyway, i think most fans have no problem with keeping yao and resigning him to a much lower contract next year. (same with battier, if it comes to that). i am happy that Les has been able to cash in on Yao's presence on the roster, but I also think that he should be willing to spend over the cap to make up for his absence on the court. if he wants to keep his cash cow, fine - but throw the fans a bone and dig into the luxury tax.
