On the positive side, what this could possibly do is take all the other NL East teams out of wild card contention, meaning the Astros have a stronger shot at the Wild Card.

lol, thats going to be the most r****dedly dominant rotation.

If they are all healthy come playoff time, they'll cruise to the championship.

Because he IS walking away from money, both from an AAV and a long term perspective. His salary with the Phillies is reported to be 5 years 100million which is 20million AAV (with a vesting option for a 6th)... whereas with the Yankies, it would have been 6 years 138 millions with a 7th at 16million, totaling 7yr 154 million AAV = 22million.

A what happened to Oswalt and his contract. Did the Phils picked up his option. I haven't read anything about that.

The Phillies have 4 ace pitchers, the Astros have 0.

I need to move out of this city. It's now the dumpster fire of cities with professional sports teams.

I'm a huge giants fan, but there is no way Lincecum, Cain and MadBum or Sanchez is even = to Doc, Lee and Hamels/Oswalt. Even before signing Lee, the phillies had what the vast majority of bball people acknowledge as the top 3 starting pitchers in a rotation (though i thought the giants had the better rotation 1-5)

if I had rank the pitchers
    1a. Halladay
    1b. Lincecum
    2 Lee
    3 Oswalt
    4 Cain
    5 Hamels
    6 Bum/Sanchez

Not really a huge baseball fan but I do applaud this move by Kevin Lee. I hate NY and I am just glad to not see them again take advantage or baseball and its moronic financial system.

If this team stays healthy, would you call this team "slump-proof?"

they beat halladay and lee TWICE each in the playoffs last year no? people under-estimate cain so much it's ridiculous. he was THE most dominant pitcher last year w/ a 0.00 ERA.

plus they're younger, going into next season with tons of confidence. i'd take linecum + cain + burgamer any day of the week. and you add in sanchez.

no doubt the phillies will be intimidating, but the giants won't be phased at all if they had to go against that pitching staff tomorrow.
