Baron Davis isn't the only reason that the Clippers suck. He's only part of the reason. The Clippers are bascially a two player team --Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon. The Clippers surrond Gordon and Griffin these three types of players: highly paid injury prone veterans, promising young players who aren't ready to really contribute, or fringe NBA players who couldn't get jobs with any other teams Injury Prone Veterans: Chris Kaman and Baron Davis Promising Young players who aren't ready to contribute: DeAndre Jordan, Al Farouq Aminu, and Eric Bledsoe Fringe NBA players who couldn't get jobs on any other team: Rasual Butler, Randy Foye, Craig Smith, Ryan Gomes, and Brian Cook The Clippers did a good job in the draft but their season was lost when all they landed in free agency was Ryan Gomes, Randy Foye, and Brian Cook. The Clippers had max money and that crap was all that they could come up with.
I blame the coach. When healthy, this team can seriously compete IMO. Kaman Griffin Aminu Gordon Davis That team can do everything. Score, defend, rebound, run, score on ISO. I would even venture to say that someone like JVG would get them into the 8th playoff spot.
You know, I am understanding that the Clippers have actually given Cook more than LOL GARBAGE TIME minutes. Am I correct, and if I am, Vinny should be taken behind the barn.
I almost feel sorry for Griffin. And it wouldn't surprise me to see him jump to the Lakers as a free agent. It's the same city, so he wouldn't anger the fans.
As someone said, you forgot to mention their coach, the incompetent Vinny. BD's problems aren't just injury related. He's selective on which games to show up, just like at Golden State. It's too bad now he's still rarely good even when he tries hard. Aminu and Bledsoe are promising but DeAndre Jordan is what he is and that's all he will be (a big man with hops who can dunk nasty but has no skills at all). One of these years, Ryan Gomes will be a specialist on a contender and do OK for himself.
Worst Owner ever strikes again. What I want to know is what Sterling has on Stern to avoid suspension/fines for incidents like this and his decades of personal and professional embarrassment that he has brought on the team.
My exact thoughts. As much as I've disliked Puffy the PG, to heckle your own player in public is past unprofessional and bad for the game. Stern absolutely should drop the hammer on this.
Don't forget the #1 reason....THEY'RE THE CLIPPERS!!! The only team that I know of that has a seat reserved at the NBA Lottery.
Sterling is a POS no doubt, but Baron Davis these days just seems happy to mail in his $13 mil a year check playing in every other game and hanging out with celebrities off the court. He seems way too complacent for someone making $13 million plus a year. But yeah, Sterling is a piece of ****.
Like I said in another thread. The Clippers will be mediocre until the team is sold. Donald Sterling and the Clippers' front office have proven themselves to be completely incompetent. Did they honestly think that Vinny Del Negro would help the team at all? The Clippers don't have any semblance of an offensive game and their defense is never adequately prepared for competition. I blame those things on Vinny Del Negro. The Clippers this year look like the Bulls from last year, except content with mediocrity. Hiring a coach that actually knows what he's doing would be a good start for the Clippers.
I believe it's more accurate to say management surrounded Brian Cook with Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon.
Wow, it's just stunning when you think of the amount of money that Baron Davis is still owed, and how many years. He's been a halfway decent player at times but if someone was paying me that kind of money I would like to have the integrity to not eat Krispy Kremes (er, TM, all rights reserved?) for breakfast, White Castle for lunch, and Papa John's for dinner. The dude has ALWAYS been a chunk. As for Donald Sterling, the less said the better. If I had been Blake Griffin at the 2009 NBA Draft Lottery, I would have been hardpressed not to scream a four-letter word containing the letters K, F, C, and U when the Clippers won the rights to the #1 pick. (No, not "UCKF". No, not "CUKF". No, it isn't an acronym for Kentucky Fried Chicken University.)
It's ridiculous, Cuban gets fined for grousing about the officials, while assclowns like Sterling, Shinn etc can milk their franchises to death, torment their home cities, sexually abuse their staff, and just generally make a giant embarrassment of themselves without any reproach. I don't get it. I'm surprised actually that he and so many others are willing to swallow his pride and play for him for a few years, if I were a #1 pick and had his kind of leverage, I'd make it clear in no uncertain terms that I would not sign for or play for Sterling under any circumstances whatsoever - the guy is an openly racist dirtbag who should probably be in jail.
I think Baron Davis is being uncommonly professional about this whole thing. If I worked for Sterling with a guaranteed contract, I'd be totally mailing it in and I'd heckle the owner during games. Davis seems to somehow still be trying a little bit. Of course, Davis chose to sign a contract with the Clippers when he didn't have to, making him just about the dumbest player in the league. Maybe he hasn't yet figured out that trying to win on the Clippers is fruitless.
