All he has to do is check tax rates and costs of living in Canada. They are much higher in Canada and just 2 years ago the Canadian government raised taxes for anybody which makes more than $2.5 million a year. If money is the real issue, and if it is between Houston and Toronto, and if Cat looks at the taxation and living costs then he should surely be a Rocket August 1st.

I think if Cuttino is seriously thinking about this decision it showes that he has more maturity than a lot of other NBA players . I doubt Mobley's decision will be the foundation for the next season . If he wanted to play in Houston next year he would have already stated it . Mobley realizes that money is what the NBA is all about and he wants a part of it . The Rockets will have no trouble without him . See ya Cuttino

I think that this is a playoff team next year. That said..this team is a few years from seriously contending. I really think Cuttino has "it". I think it's possible that he'll never play great D. But he has a scorer's mentality. He can get to the line anytime he wants, and he's becoming more and more accurate from all over the floor, especially from the perimeter. He's somebody that'll hit that big shot. Rudy knows this and we got him in the second round. Meaning 2 years ago most of his suitors passed on him, and there aren't too many other 2's outta that draft wortha damn but Hughes and Dickerson.
Hope he resigns.....the Rockets are known for having an understanding with players who accept less money------>next year (following a big year-big $$$$$$$)

If money is the issue, I agree that he'll stay with us, but not for the reasons you've stated. According to the Chronicle today (http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/bk/bkn/607201), he can sign a 6 year contract starting at 5 million. That would be a $37.5 million, 6 year contract (10% raises). Of course, in the long run, the Rockets can pay more, since the $4 million contract we can offer could only be 1 year. I only see one way in which it is more profitable for Mobley to leave: if he gets injured next season and can't play again, he would still have many guaranteed millions from Toronto that Houston cannot offer.

However, I don't think this is about money after all. Witness his quotes in this morning Chronicle:

"Yeah, it's down to those two (teams)," Mobley said. "The Raptors are a good team and they're close to home (Philadelphia). That's where things are right now."

"I don't know (how much of a role he would have in the Toronto offense), but we'll see," Mobley said. "I'm a ballplayer, you know what I mean? I know it's Vince's show there, just like it's Steve's show here.

"I just want to participate, that's all. I love Steve to death, and I know he won't be mad at me if I decide to go with Toronto, so we'll see what happens."

And Mobley insists it's not about the money, either.

"No, it isn't," Mobley said. "If it was all about the money, I would have went to the Clippers. It's not about that, though. A lot of teams came at me, but I want to win. I want to make the right decision."

Of course, he'll play lip-service to the its-not-the-money stuff. But he also mentions proximity to Philadelphia (though it ain't that close), that the Raptors are a good team, and a desire to win. He also says that he'll see about how big his role will be in Toronto, so I think he's concerned about his shots. However, he recognizes that he'll be second fiddle wherever he goes. It seems his friendship with Francis is not that big a factor because Francis will understand.

Money has something to do with it, because he's not considering other teams close to Philly; he's considering a playoff team with cap-room. I think that he likes that the Raptors are a playoff team and is afraid that Houston might not be. I think he'll stay once he's sold on the ability of the Rockets to field a playoff caliber team. I'm betting that he delays his decision a while and might not decide until the Rockets or Raptors execute a trade.

I also feel that his indecision is a plus for us. Toronto is also considering Eisley and Lewis and they can't wait forever for Mobley to make up his mind. The other 2 FAs will want to decide where they want to go. Plus, any trades the Raptors may want to do might be hampered by not having signed an FA yet because it would close their cap-space. So there will be some pressure on the Raptor side to decide whereas the capped out Rockets can probably wait all summer. Mobley might find his window of opportunity close on him.

I am in agreement with Moe and String:

If Mobley leaves its not the end of the world. He is not some superstar or anything along those lines. The Cat is a top notch 6th man, nothing more nothing less. If he signs and comes off the bench, thats fine, if he walks to Toronto and the Rockets save the 4 mil salary they would have given him, thats fine also. Shandon Anderson is a better player and more suited to be a starter in this league.

Also, string brings up a very good point. Whether or not Cuttino comes back, its questionable about the Rockets being a playoff team. Re-building takes TIME. If they have another lottery season then fine so be it. The West is so jammed full right now its not even funny. Its going to take time for teams like Portland, SA and Utah to fully age and fall out of the playoff picture. I know its painful watching a team go into the lottery, but in a draft like the 2001 one, it will all payoff in the long run.

Moe you said "The Rockets will have no trouble without him "
Are you meaning we could secure another lottery pick easily or what? I think we are in serious trouble if he does leave. Only real positive I would see is Moochie becomes our 3rd guard (unless Drew does indeed stay a Rocket) and that would allow Franchise to play some at the #2 guard, which I would love to see.
Face it the NBA is a business. Player sdo things for the money. We are spoiled to have had Dream who never considered leaving. Most players either move for money or move to chase rings. Do you expect KG to spend his entire career in Minnesota? Do you expect Vince to stay in Canada? Even the NBA's 2 nicest players (Hill & Duncan) considered moving, and Hill did. It's a business. When we were good we could attract top nothch players (via trades or FA) like Clyde & Charles but now we aren't one of the contendors and Houston is a city known for it's media presence (LA or NY, maybe Chicago). If we lose Mobley we are in trouble.
Unfortunately I think w/out mobes (and assuming no major FA signings) that we are on the far outside looking in at the playoffs. Franchis & Anderson are both good players and the rest of the teams is a series of questions. Can Dream regain his old form (not MYP but atleast a good consistent player), can Walt play like he did in the final 20 games, can Cato play with heart, can KT matchup with the great PFs in the West. Without Mobley I see a very ugly season.

I have no problem with Cat leaving...If the season gets ugly next year, so be it. The lottery next year has some serious talent in it. Even with Cat this is no playoff team. Not by a long shot. I am FAR more concerned with the arena issue than I am with who Cuttino signs with. Anderson is by FAR the superior 2 and he started to show it late in the year. No worries here. Just give the Rocs an arena and I am good to go...

Im saying if Cuttino leaves , We have more money to get a free agent who could help the team more by starting instead of coming off the bench
