Would one of my fellow posters be so kind to bring the Nachbar Daily Diary Report back onto page ONE. I am unable to leave page ONE and he is making such interesting views in his report! Thanks from Yetti.
Day Four: October 4 Today we had one longer practice instead of two shorter ones, but we played much better. We made better passes and started hitting more shots. I thought we showed some real improvement today. We're starting to do what Rudy wants. We're all seeing how the offense is working and how to find open guys. Coming in the same time with Yao Ming is interesting. I know that I'm not really feeling any less pressure coming in with him. Of course, if I was the only guy I wouldn't really feel any pressure. I feel like I'm only one part of this team. I'm not really concerned or afraid of coming in here and being expected to score lots of points right away. We've got lots of guys that can do that. Tonight, I'm just going to stay in and relax and put some ice on. Some of the guys like to go out to eat or something like that. But for now, I just want to order dinner and relax. I might surf the Internet for a while, check my e-mail or call my family. I like baseball, so it's been nice to be able to see the playoffs over here. My girlfriend is also here for a few days, so I'm sure we'll go out and eat something or see some of Austin. It's a big help to have her over here. It's like having some of home here. Talk to you tomorrow.
Another arsenal on Rockets uniform!! Nachbar is just another one of the scorer that they need to stop!
He seems to have a very positive outlook on the game.I think he is going to get better with time and become an exciting team player.
http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Bostjan_Nachbars_Rookie_Diar-54608-34.html Day Five: October 5 Glen Rice is one guy I'm trying to kind of pattern my game after. He's a guy I can look up to. He's experienced and he has a great shot and he plays my position. I've been watching him when he practices a little bit more. Another guy that I like to watch is Cutino Mobley. He's a really good driver and he drives to the basket all the time. I might look up to him and copy some of the things he does, but you know we have a lot of great players. I try to look at everyone on the team and try to pull something out of their game that might make my game better. Yesterday, we only had one practice, but today, I basically had three. At 7:30 a.m. I had to go lift weights, that's the only way I'm going to get stronger. Then we had practice in the morning and evening, although I'm still not really getting tired. I like to practice two times a day, though. You get the chance to practice like we did this morning on drills or shooting and just try to improve your skills. Then, in the afternoon, we usually play, which is great. Then, you get to test yourself a bit and see how much you've improved. I also had to get my feet looked at today. It wasn't anything real big, they had to make some new inserts for my shoes. My ankles were hurting a little bit, so this should help out. It's nothing serious though, a lot of players have them. Talk to you tomorrow.
Thanks for re-posting these. I was looking for the topic that had the link yesterday and i couldn't find it so i went to the rockets website and tried to find it and i actually found a link to a preseason game a year or two ago. But couldn't find the Nachbar diaries. Thanks again!
http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Bostjan_Nachbars_Rookie_Diar-54649-34.html Bostjan Nachbar's Rookie Diary (Day Six: October 6) I think I learned mostly about the defense the first week. Defense is much different in Europe. I had to learn all the principles and everything of playing defense over here. Where I'm supposed to be positioned, how to cut down on angles and things like that. I also learned a lot offensively. I learned how to play with all new teammates, the plays and also I got a feel for playing in the NBA. The game is different in Europe, so I've been paying attention to the differences and learning from them. The game is definitely more physical, but it's not quite as bad as I thought it was going to be. Also, the game is faster. There are quicker and better athletes, so you don't have much time to think out there. We have our first preseason game Monday at Memphis. I don't really know how much I'm going to play. I figure, if I play, I play. If I don't, I don't. That's up to the coaches. Hopefully, we'll go out and play as a team and show some improvement. Of course, it doesn't really matter if we win or lose. We just want to play hard and do some good things. It's the preseason. We'll make mistakes but we'll have time to fix them. Hopefully, we'll look fine though. I've enjoyed the opportunity to give you a few insights into my first training camp. It's been pretty tough but I'm ready to get on the court and play for real. I'm looking forward to the season getting started. Hope to see you at Compaq Center this season. Take care.
In other words, in Europe, defense is a foreign concept. At least he won't feel left out. Few if any of the Rockets can be smug about their defensive prowess.
Before we got Boki and Yao Ming, I was so worried about the Rockets' basketball IQ, or even their IQ in general. Making the right decisions, being mature, all that stuff. It makes me THAT MUCH more grateful that we got 2 young, MATURE, smart, obedient rookies like Nachbar and Ming. It's nice that Boki is trying to take parts of other people's games and incorporating it into his own, especially Mobley's game, but I hope his attitude rubs off on everyone else.
