Joking? Initial reaction after Transformers 2 was that it was pretty good. But as it began to sink in I started to realize how awful it truly was. I like a lot of Bay's films, so mindless popcorn fun is fine. Transformers 1 was a great action film that had some minor flaws. Transformers 2 took everything that was wrong about 1 and did more of it. More potty humor, more stereotypes, more annoying characters, worse robot designs (devastator was complete crap). Michael Bay needs to be reigned if Transformers 3 has any hope of being good. I'm skeptical that'll happen, but hope it does because I like transforming robots beating the crap out of each other.
The Transformers camp said that the writers strike and rushed production made TF2 bad. So hopefully, TF3 goes back to the roots of the original film with the summer popcorn fun. Read an article couple months ago saying the script was pretty good for TF3.
In addition, Megan Fox joked about how she didn't even know what the fck was going on in this movie. At one point supposedly looking at Shia (who was going over his lines) and said "Shia, what the fck are you going over your lines for? We are making Transformers."
not joking at all, transformers 1 was identical to transformers 2, except the first one had an even more monotonous and incoherent ending.
One thing about Bay here that really irks me is that with as over the top as he and his movies are known to be, why did he redesign all of the robots to look so drastically different from the original toys and cartoons? I seem to remember him saying something to the effect of wanting them to be more realistic....which I grudgingly accepted....and then he has John Turturro's character wearing CIA (or whatever it was) under-roos?? The Transformer movies are nothing more than live-action CGI cartoons. He could have made Starscream look like Starscream or at least have made Devastator remotely resemble Devastator and added to them to make them look more realistic if he'd really wanted to. It probably would have been easier to do than a complete redesign. Don't give me crap about realism and then put one of your chief characters in friggin' under-roos and make all the Autobots into one massive commercial for GM. For the record, I found the first movie to be passable; the second one was worth a look but was ultimately disappointing.
And she'll never make anything even remotely as important as even a Transformers trailer ever again in her life.
The second one was so bad that I would rather watch The English Patient 3 times before I'd watch that POS again. What might save this is if the movie will be rated x and have hot lesbo scenes between Fox and Johanssen.
Has there ever been a trilogy where the first movie was good, second bad, and the third good? I can't think of one.
There was no reason for it beyond it being a producer's creative "reinterpretation" (ego massage). The ONLY reason I accepted it was Peter Cullen voicing Optimus Prime again, definitely validating. What made him want to go with a tin foil scouring pad look for robots is beyond me. Even if that look wasnt part of Transformers and was its own different thing, I STILL would look like crap all to itself. Its like there were 5 possible design options, and he went with the 4th worst out of the 5, the 5th one would be them having fur.
My favorite thing involving Michael Bay. Megan Fox in Transformers was stupendously filmed as a screen starlet. Her image in TF is almost iconic (probably, you know "that" Megan screen photo they always show). I gave her credit despite her critics, saying any girl that's involved in Transformers is AUTOMATIC cool in my book. There's really just ONE thing you can realistically want out of performers whether they're athletes and entertainers, and its that they give effort at what they're doing. Even more, to give a darn about it. But with all the unflattering little tidbits about her (some unfair cuz Michael Bay's meatheaded ego is PLENTY to blame), since thats her attitude then its good they tossed her sorry ass out of the franchise. I'm sure Carrie Fisher had her disagreements with Star Wars and George Lucas, but she sucked it up as a professional and went on with it. The Princess Leia / Hermione type gigs come once a decade and she blew it.
Also, Shia's response to Megan's comment.... "I don't know what her feelings on all that is, I don't show up fking around. I'm an actor and I take it seriously. To Megan's credit though, I recall seeing an interview she did and was surprised at how realistic she was with herself and what she was/portrayed as, as an actress. But I agree, you got to be professional and not screw up your opportunities...even if you are making Transformers. And Bay is being a DBag to you.
The Trailer doesn't impress me at all. If it was for the first movie than it might have been ok, But making a trailer which builds up the suspense about that there might be alien lifeforms on the moon, when we already had 2 movies about giant robots from outer space walking on the earth is not that impressive. And to ad to the discussion about this movie series, I agree with Rhino17, Transformers 1 was terrible. And I'll explain by quoting m post from the original Transformer movie
Transformers part 1 and 2 have a special fondness for me! Both were filmed partly in the town I live in, Alamogordo, Nm and Holloman Afb. I got to meet Michael Bay when he first came to the base for a pre-production meeting. I was working the law enforcement desk at Holloman Afb when he came to our building to meet with our Commander to discuss security issues. I was actually the first person to make contact with him. I was a extra for the scenes at the beginning of the movie in the scenes filmed on the base. You have to understand that our town is the size of porter or maybe spring texas and we had movie stars chillin for about a month. I met Shia at walmart buying a Xbox game at about 1am. He was pretty chill, especially that late at night. Tyrese and Josh Dumell were at our little tiny clubs on most weekends, and they were really layed back. I think the small town feel let them relax and just enjoy themselves. That was during filming for part one. Part two only had them in town for about 2 weeks, and my wife and brother in law got to attend the wrap party at Inn of the Mountain Gods Casino! Overall was just a cool experience to have them in town. Megan Fox was here for the filming of part 2 and she was the only one that acted like a movie star when she was here. She asked Chillis to keep the booth empty around her so she wouldnt be bothered. Just a cool experience in our little town. Reason alot of movies film in this area is because of white sands. Also, the Jack Black movie Year One filmed here and he was a regular at the Chillis bar almost everyday. They were staying in the Holiday Inn that was right next to it. He bought the bar a round the last night he was in town.
#2 was awful. I don't normally stop watching a movie. But I couldn't finish that film. Bay promises this one is going to be better...lol. We'll see. I'll watch it when it's on DVD or at SFA where tickets are like $1.
say what you will about transformers 1 not being "realistic" within its own world, but at least it had a coherent story (even if it much of it didn't make any sense). The plot of transformers 2 on the other hand was completely impossible to follow. I've tried and failed to watch that film 3 times and still have no idea what the plot is. All I remember is the mom being on weed.
