Good for them, they eat their kill. Otherwise, it'd be a waste.

Great post! I think Ray Lewis is a better story than Vick because he's stayed the course for so many years. His short-term "shock therapy" turned him around for the long-term.

I like what Bill Simmons said about Vick best:

yes you do have to eat to live

the majority of the world kills animals to eat to live

but there is a decent amount of vegetarians in the world as well and they're all living pretty normal and healthy lives.

basically you have to eat to live

you dont necessarily need to kill animals though to eat

Let's not go to the silly place of comparing people who eat animals to survive vs. people who kill dogs for fun and/or profit.

In certain parts of the country I come from, dogs are a local delicacy. And they are not killed in a "humane" way.

Simmons has a great point about the way people ignore the cultural aspect of this thing. Not everyone sees dogs the same way an apparent majority of the American public does. My parents would never condone dogfighting or the things Michael Vick, but they can't stand dogs living in the house and being treated like regular human beings either. They believe dogs belong in the backyard or outside at night. People are quick to conclude that Vick was simply this depraved, sadistic, heartless killer because of the things he did, when in fact it's more likely that he didn't really realize how bad what he was doing was. It doesn't excuse what he did, but he has paid the price for what he did. What now, condemn him forever? Even the so-called animal lovers who continue to despise him are hypocrites in my view, because they essentially take the view that everybody must be infallible and nobody deserves a second chance. By whose standards?

I'm happy for Vick. I think he is one of the most inspirational stories the NFL has to offer. His story is a story of hope -- if Michael Vick could rebuild his life and regain greatness again after crashing as hard as he did, anyone can, no matter how bad their situation looks. It's easy to put out an ensemble of seemingly perfect athletes out there and have the rest of the plebes aspire in futility to become like them, but there is nothing more inspiring than a true story of redemption. And that's what Michael Vick represents.

This is a load of bull*****

Roman Polanski won a fricking Oscar
after he drugged and anally rape a 13 yr old girl
then fled the country to avoid prosecution

so . . . . this guy can take his soapbox and stick it up his . . .

That commentary was written by Nils Lofgren, a member of Bruce Springsteen's band. Do you really care what he has to say?

    Didn't Roethlisberger rape a b****?

What Vick did was horrible. But he was punished for it. I'm not sure the NFL should be giving out additional punishment.

So if someone went to prison for 2 years to serve sentences, and when came out, he/she can not go back to work in the same field as before?

Oh STFU, he spent 19 months in federal prison for killing animals. We eat animals everyday and people don't make a big deal about it. He didn't kill a human being, we shouldn't regard animals as high as humans.

I'm not saying that his crime wasn't bad but he did his time and that is that.

I actually wrote an article about Mike's journey back into the NFL today.

Check it out and tell me what you think about it:

I would very much appreciate any sort of feedback.

So they both should be ok? Just to be clear, because that's what your response implies.

I dont think responses highlighting other people who did so and so but still got to "come back and accomplish (fill in the blank) make good arguments for Vick supporters. In many cases, as with Polanski, I'd argue that their story makes no sense either.

As for Vick being this great story - well that's the type of attitude that probably spurred the original article. It's a story, not an awesome story of redemption or anything. The NFL needs more stories of legitimately good guys who are succeeding as opposed to formerly horrible guys who are now ?? Guys but are amazing players. But the former story isn't nearly as interesting, unfortunately.
