The sugar factory is being demolished on Sunday. The only thing that will remain is the brick building which will be restored as part of a new master planned community and baseball stadium.

It's been mentioned but loggio is your best bet for drinks.

The Rouxpour is a good Cajun restaurant.

There is absolutely nothing to do there except eat. It's a network of retail shopping centers, parking lots, and sterile residential areas. No character, no aeshetic beauty, and it's probably one of the least walkable areas I've ever been to. It is a gulag of mediocrity.

Keep in mind it's not a major city. You can't compare it to Houston...

But along with the shopping, it's home to some of the better school/school districts in the area, there's museums and such, and a minor league baseball team/stadium is coming soon. Not to mention it's one of the fastest growing communities. Why else would it be named one the best places to live in America?

In other words it's great if you're in your 50's.

To be fair, I grew up in Sugar Land, and I agree that there's no way I'd ever want to move back there (I'm in my mid-20s), but it's fine for high school kids and below...in other words, a 14 year old Sugar Land kid isn't missing out on much by living in Sugar Land (at that age), rather than a more urban, cosmopolitan city.

If anything, they're likely getting a better education.

Good for families. Shorter drive to Houston than, say, the Woodlands.

People are going to smugly say Austin and you will have no effective comeback.

The burbs are the burbs. Have a pack of kids? Well it's cheap, safe and the schools are good.

I grew up in Sugarland. I loved it. A lot of my friends called it "the bubble." I guess they have a point, but I'd much rather raise my kids in a bubble than next to a meth lab.

I grew up in Sugar Land as well. My activities in high school consisted of going to the movies, hitting up the random house party when someone's parents were out of town, and getting HJ's from skanks in the backseat of my 1990 Cutlass Ciera at Cullinan Park.

Um, dude, that sounds AWESOME! What else would you want to be doing as a high schooler?? Going on photo walks?? Jogging in the park?? Seriously, some of you guys need to lighten up. Sugar Land is a nice place to live if you like a cozy lifestyle with good schools, and a safe environment. It's got nothing on city living, but name me a suburb that does. If you're trying to compare living inside the loop to living in Sugar Land, then gtfo. That's apples and oranges.
