ive been trying to win tickets to it this week on the radio...but unfortunatly i will be staying home...
Thanks Batman. I'm about to get going. Should be a lot of fun. Last year I sat in the stands, this year I'm on the floor with standing room only. Hopefully I'll be able to get close to the stage. I'll write the review when I get home.
You know, it's simply amazing seeing a 61 year-old man perform like he's in his twenties. That is what I saw tonight. Bob was just amazing. He really looked like he was having a great time tonight. The concert lasted more than two hours, at least twice as long as last year's show. If there is a better performer out there, please let me know. I'm a bit tired from trying to "hold my position" in the mosh pit, and my legs and back are- well, there isn't a strong enough word for the pain I feel. Still, it was worth it. I'll write more tomorrow.
ZRB: I'm glad you had a good time. I'm not sure if you know quite what a wild concert you were at. If you're not a TOTAL freak, it's natural to not be able to identify all the songs -- especially given Dylan's unique singing style. But he's been following a formula for quite a long while. Opens with a traditional tune, played acoustic, follows with three electric, then three acoustic, etc. Same every night, albeit different songs. The covers are changed out night to night, but basically predictable within like an eight cover pallette. I play fantasy Dylan set lists at pool.dylantree.com. That's where the biggest freaks hang out. And the show you were at tonight totally baffled all of them. Unprecedented. Apparently he played Brown Sugar tonight. First Stones cover ever from him. Wilder still, he apparently covered three Warren Zevon tunes. Turns out Zevon has cancer and isn't expected to live long. Dylan's never covered three songs by anyone in one concert, in his forty some year career. All just to say you were at an historic concert. And I'm still looking forward to your review. G'night.
Batman Jones- well, that explains it. Bob is my favorite artist, but I wasn't die-hard enough to recognize every song last night. That didn't really matter to me, though. The beauty of Dylan is that he is just a brilliant musician. He pulled out the keyboard for the first time in a concert I've been to. And obviously, his guitar and harmonica work was beautiful. Like I said, it really looked like he was having a great time last night. He was smiling in between songs, and it showed with the rest of the band. There was so much emotion in the music. I couldn't understand half of what he was singing, but it didn't matter. The music was just brilliant. His band is incredible. At his last concert in Seattle (10-6-01), he called them "the best band in the world". I can't disagree with that. What I enjoyed the most was standing 20 feet from a living legend. It was just great being in the presence of the man. The only thing that pissed me off was the annoying people trying to push their way through to the stage, but I held my ground. My legs were crying after the concert. I felt like I had just banged with Shaq. But it was definitely worth it. The energy was flowing, the crowd was diverse and enthusiastic, and did I mention that the music was incredible? This was a ten. I'm glad to hear that the concert was historic!
Yep, thats right. A mosh pit. When I saw Dylan a few years ago, he had Ani Defranko(sp?) open for him. There was a mosh pit for her that kept right on going when Dylan played. The same thing happened to me ZRB. I had front row seats and the damn kids from the cheap seats came down to the pit which forced all of us, that paid top dollar to see Dylan, to have to stand and just hold our ground in order to even see Dylan.

Sure, it's where a bunch of young kids get together and drink beer and slap high-fives while listening to music
