I think he'll grab a bunch of boards and block shots. I don't see this guy scoring a ton just like Camby.
His man defense is ok. He needs some work but his blocks come from the weakside and playing man-to-man defense. I think the Bucks would be better if they played Sanders at the PF with Bogut at the 5. Sanders can protect the paint pretty good. IMO, Sanders has more upside then Hill but one thing they have in common is they both need more playing time.
Is Sanders significantly better than, say, Jordan Hill? I haven't watched the Bucks this season so would appreciate any thoughts people have.
I would say right now Sanders has a higher ceiling then Hill. IMO both players need more playing time and both guys could benefit playing along side Bogut and Miller.
Because you draft for talent over need. And because it seems we want Jordan Hill to be a shot blocking center, and there's no point in getting two of them. The thing about that style of thinking is that it is not a correct move to say "Oh, Yao is injured, let's just get a weaker version of him". And I will bet anything that Sanders will never be as good as Yao can be. Rather then simply trying to get an poor man's Yao, one should aim for simply the best player that one can get and adjust the team and playstyle to better accommodate a superior player.
I just checked his numbers His Per 36 Min Projections 10.7 PPG 8.0 RPG 3.3 BPG 44% FG 59% FT He appears to be a natural shotblocker, but at this point he hasn't done anything else to salivate over. It's hard to say we missed the boat until we can reach a verdict on Patterson. Carl Landry spent the first part of his rookie season riding the pine and he turned out OK.
We sure did, and Les should be asking Morey why we didn't draft this kid when he's exactly what we need.
Quick update on the comparison: http://www.basketball-reference.com...m=1&p1=sandela01&y1=2011&p2=pattepa01&y2=2011 Not to attack anyone who likes Larry Sanders (who has very good tools and migh well end up better... too early to tell at this stage), but now that Patterson has had a chance to play some minutes (he didn't play until mid December), he's looked pretty good in a comparision with Sanders. Comparable minutes per game, Sanders has more blocked shots per minute (though Patterson has been no slouch), both should rebound more than they have so far. The main difference seems to be that Patterson's shooting has been unreal while Sanders is generally still trying to find his stroke (well, playing on the worse offensive team in the league probably doesn't help).
Why has Sanders been removed from the rotation? What happened? Did he get injured or is he in the doghouse?
Good stuff. Patterson is obviously more polished on offense. I haven't seen enough of his low post moves. Other than that, he plays like a veteran, from his shooting confidence, to moving without the ball, to court awareness, to making the right pass. Sanders seems to be a natural defender in the Olajuwon mold. Quick jump, quick hands, good timing. Will he ever develop a refined offensive game? We'll see. Yeah, being on a bad offensive team doesn't help. But that hasn't stopped Blake Griffin from being a beast on offense.
The problem with BBIQ for someone like Morey is people like Battier are complete outliers and compared to Morey a high BBIQ is still a moron to him.
