Definitely interesting to watch. I wonder what Larussa will do if Berkman struggles offensively out of the gate. Will he sit him? Because there is no way he can justify taking a hit on defense if Berkman isn't swinging the bat very well.
Seriously.....this screams coming back to haunt us. Berkman is probably going to have a resurgence gah why the Cards.
Why would the Astros have brought him back? No point of playing and paying a declining 35 year old when you are trying to rebuild and get younger.
I understand the reasoning behind not bringing him back and I'm glad we didn't. But now its annoying knowing that any damage he does do will be against his former team. Now if he has a respectable year and Wallace struggles everyone will be bombarding the Astros front office for not bringing him back and letting him go to a "rival".
Am burning my Berkman jersey, I think he wants to stick it to the Astros and Wade for not wanting him back
Yeah, it couldn't be that the Cardinals offered him $8MM and he thought it was great deal. It must be spite.
Lol at all the hate...Berkman wasn't getting much attention, the A's, Rockies, and the Cards maybe a few more...I will always be a Berkman fan and I know he will get some boos at MMP but he should get all the love he deserves. Dude was an Icon and you cant blame him for wanting to stick it to the team that pretty much gave up on him. Im glad he came back to the NL and as long as its not the Cubs im happy
Sorry for the double post, but who the hell do you pitch to if Berkman can become a good hitter again
It's doubtful anyone offered more than $8MM. And if I had the choice between the Rockies (occasional playoff team) vs St. Louis (likely contender) for the same amount of money, it seems like a no brainer to pick St. Louis. The fact that they have Holliday and Pujols, meaning Berkman gets more RBI opportunities and less pressure just makes it even better.
no big deal, we'll return the favor next year when we sign pujols. looks like i'm done rooting for lance for at least a year.
yall disappoint me. You realize this is all part of the Astros plan, right? To bring down the Cardinals from the inside...
Great move by the Cards, if Puma can get himself back on track then lookout but he has battled injuries and declining play over the last few years. He isn't going to play much 1st base so playing left field should be interesting and that isn't MMP's LF either. I know he preferred to play the field full time and some outfield but in the end playing some DH might have been better for Puma long term then outfield full time.
Damn....i didnt want him back but i think i didnt want him in the division more.....this blows....i was happy when he was talking to oakland
Lance will have a nice season. No way should he get booed at Minute Maid -- it was the Astros who didn't make him an offer. We should give him a nice ovation for his contributions to the Astros and the community.
The way he got traded without really getting a goodbye, I don't think people will boo him. If he had left as a free agent I could see it. I don't think he or Roy get booed in their returns, though Roy did get boos during his last start at MMP after giving up a bunch of runs.
