Not until we start voting in officials who actually want to pay down the debt. This is 100% our fault.

I don't want to pay more taxes, but I am quite happy seeing people making 250k pay more taxes.

Thanks again for posting this worthwhile link.

I contributed $50, so I fully expect conservatives to contribute 30% more than I.

Great link. I never knew this existed. It's funny to me that the Gates and Buffet's would never dream of donating any money to the government yet they ask the government to do social good like it's a charitable organization. It's easy for people to sit back and ask for increased taxes on the wealthy, but why aren't people focusing on how we can reduce government spending. It just seems incredible to be focused on taxes when the bloated government/military is devouring hard earned tax dollars.

I may seem like a heartless individual, but I do volunteer my time and donate to charitable organizations that I research and believe in. I love having this ability to choose and feel comfortable with where my money is going. In opposition to this is the money I give to the government which I have no real decision on where the funds go beyond writing my congressman. My problem is ultimately with a system like federal government institutions where no competition exists, it leads to a sector where innovation, efficiency, and excellence aren't held to the highest standards. If there was only one clothing store in the US, we would all be wearing parachute pants still. Now, I'm not for just gutting the government wholesale, but I think reevaluting the systems currently in place and looking at moving some institutions to the state level would help in pushing the ideals that drive success.

The Commission on Budget Reform which is comprised of a few different political and economic views had some interesting view points, but at the same time didn't seem incredibly optimistic about getting into the black. I know that it's going to take sacrifice from our side and the governments in order to see a significant difference and Senator Tom Coburn's message in the video below really stated it well. Yeah, I watch boring Cspan from time to time hehe.

cheer up whopper. you might win the lottery and get in a tax bracket where you actually have to pay some substantial taxes. you might find it isn't as bad as you imagine.

The rich paying a much higher tax rate is not special.

Why do you hate 1950's America so much? What did Eisenhower ever do to you or your family?

This thread is a great example of how man-on-the-street conservative thinking basically functions at the level of a 12-year old.

So..collective action problem...go away, ain't nobody going to recognize you around here.

John Kennedy didn't like the 1950s tax rates.

“It is a paradoxical truth,’’ he once told the Economic Club of New York, “that tax rates are too high today and tax revenues are too low and the soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the rates now.’’

"...the top marginal tax rate in the early 1960's was 91%, whereas today it is 35%."

Yep, I knew that. Of course, the wealthy had good lawyers so they were not actually paying that rate.

Still, the essential point is that if a liberal wants to give 91% of their income to the federal government, the federal government is more than happy to take it. I was merely providing a public service in giving the link.

Apparently the fact that JFK was a proud liberal is completely lost on you. You're amazingly consistent in your lack of comprehension.

I want to see all the job creation for the past decade from the upper 3% since receiving their tax breaks. Trickle down effect, anyone please share.

A proud liberal who cut taxes - in 1963.

Today's liberals, especially wealthy ones, tell us that they should be paying more taxes. In the absence of more taxes, they can always donate to the federal government.

You think a tax increase will create jobs in this economic climate?

How well did that stimulus package work out since we have unemployment just under 10%?

Finally, you're missing the point of the thread.

So I say either extend bush tax cuts for $250k and below or no tax cut at all and we can thank the republicans for that!! The republicans will raise my taxes.

Do you think cutting taxes will increase employment? That has never really been the case. Did Clinton raise taxes? Employment seemed to be ok then.

The stimulus package wasn't targeted enough nor big enough, but even still it did save jobs. Imagine how much worse it would have been with unemployment over 10%

Did JFK cut taxes when there was a huge deficit and the top marginal rates were below 35%?
