Agreed, although I don't mind a "human-interest" spot every once-in-a-while. But please, for the love of all we hold dear, no Stuart Scott-esque jive-ass crap, as someone suggested earlier. He makes the studio portion of Monday Night Countdown almost unwatchable.
i got 1 no chanel 51!!!!!!!!!!! i know thats not what you all want but i am fine with it now. but i am sure it could be better.
I would recommend more "where are they now" segments featuring former rockets. Perhaps a weekly "rookie diary" featuring Boston, Tito or Yao. As well as highlights from games in progress.
I'm not sure about replacing her, but I think we definitely need to see a lot more of Jeff Haggadorn. Not only is the guy tremendously nice, but he is a VERY good annoncer/features person. Maybe he could be our version of Jim Gray roaming the sidelines. The main difference is he wouldn't be wearing Michael Jordan's ass as a hat.
heyp-- I don't think we should get rid of the community service features, but we should have more features focusing on the players and the team. AND ENOUGH of that crap with that guy doing dumb features on crap like Rudy's ice cream shop. Notice I never said we should have highlights from other games around the NBA. If I wanted to see that, I'd watch Sportscenter. Please NO FRAN or any other radio/newspaper/magazine types who think they know it all. Only ex-players and coaches. Houston, I'm sad to say, is very much a bandwagon sports city. If the Rockets start winning, don't play ugly and boring ball like last year, and Yao starts tearing it up, will have NO PROBLEMS selling tickets. Oh yeah, in case you haven't heard Chuck say it 100 times, the ticket prices are way, way too high. I know as player's salaries increase, etc. they might as well have the prices higher, BUT...The true fans are in the nosebleeds, snuck down, or are at home watching. I'm not saying any of the people down near center court aren't "fans" but there are a whole lot of people who really want to go to games but can't afford to go to more than one a year. Those $10 tickets they had last year were a great idea.
I just want to see games up here in College Station. Last year, only the games on FSSW were on, and most of the time we had to split them w/ Dallas and S.A. Anyone know how they will do the distribution of the games in C.S.?
That's why we just about doubled the number of $10 and $13 tickets that will be available for each game. Those sections sold out consistently last year -- there's obviously fans who find those seats a great value. Tim
Unfortunately, the Rockets have absolutely NO control over the broadcasting of their games beyond a 35-mile radius around Houston. So, to get games in College Station, the only real solution is Direc TV or digital cable, but I know that isn't always the best option.
You can also have the MOS, when the Rockets vist other cities... ...TNT did that when Yao was in Oakland. They walked around down town Oak, asking random people if they knew who Yao Ming was... We could send out a beat reporting asking anything on the streets of the visting teams city. Imagine a Rocket beat-reporter going out to a sports bar in Los Angeles... asking about Yao Ming and Shaq. You know they will talk trash...heh heh...
It seems alot of people are thinking like me. I would like to see more coverage, not only the games. The local media doesn't do much more than show highlights and the Rockets broadcasts show the game and some cummunity event the Rockets were at. I would like to see some show about the team. The Xs and Os, player profiles, maybe a profile of people working in the organization (ie an assistant GM, a scout, someone in the office, etc.). Anything to bring me, the fan closer to the team. Other cities have shows like this or incorporate this into a pre or post-game show, why not Houston?
Thanks. I hope to see marketing become much more aggressive as well for all the casual sports fans. Billboards alone just won't cut it. Lame TV commericals also aren't too great. It's nice to see at least an effort to improve, however. Keep it up.
Well Matt Bullard failed his physical in Atlanta with a bad back. How about the Rockets add him to the post/pre- game show or booth, whatever, just sign him to help do the play by play. The guy said he wants to do play-by-play and the guy almost won the "Most popular Rocket" poll on the website. I think the guy should be part of the fold. BULLARD FOR 3!!!!!!
I work with some powerdancers and appearantly the Rockets are going to have a band this season that travels with the team! I think that will be cool. The dancers will be wearing a lot less clothing and they said that the way the players are going to be announced at the beginning of the game will be very original. But I think exciting pregame televized activities involving the crowd in attendance to get the crowd active and vocal and crazy and generaly having a good time will make for a more enjoyable game experience, not to mention that a rockin' crowd of fans will pump your team up tremendously, and the games are funner to watch on tv when you see the crowd pumped up. Sorry I can't write more, my night college classes await!
