i don't know if the USA has the same thing for the Queen of England that we Canadians do...but nonetheless...i'm seeing the Queen! (and wayne gretzky's gonna be at the hockey game).

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news/ap/20021003/ap-sharks-canucks-queen-puck.html

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- Queen Elizabeth II will drop the ceremonial puck Sunday in a preseason game between the San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks.

The Queen will be in Vancouver as part of a 12-day tour of Canada, and the Duke of Edinburgh will accompany her to the game.

John Anderson, deputy media coordinator for the royal tour, said he did not know who came up with the idea, but believes the Queen will do just fine.

``She is the Queen of Canada, and I would say it would come quite naturally to her,'' Anderson said.

Anderson said the last game the Queen saw was in 1951 between the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers, when she was a 25-year-old princess.

With the Queen's busy schedule, Anderson thinks it is unlikely she will practice her technique.

``I think somebody will give her a few instructions prior to, but there will be nothing major and no practice,'' he said.

After dropping the puck, the Queen will go to a royal suite and watch the first period before leaving.

Queen used to be pretty big here, but not so much now. It's good to hear the Queen is back on tour though.

Is she going to sing Bohemian Rhapsody?

I guess it depends what you mean by “Queen of Canada.” She has absolutely no political power, formal or informal. She comes for a visit every now and then and waves at us, and quite a few of us wave back. In that sense I guess she is the Queen of Canada.

I met Prince Phillip once. He’s a nice guy, and a good conversationalist (not surprising I guess because he has precious little else to do). I bet a lot of my fellow members of the Commonwealth on this board have met a member of the Royal Family though. They’re really just high priced PR people, and they come around fairly often.

DC: Um, we're talking about a different Queen. :D

I know she is just the crazy aunt we all have that no one really likes to talk about, and half of the family won't admit to having. I was hoping you would see this and I hope it made you laugh.

How's life in the great white north? That "socialist utopia" still working for ya? :D Still safely packing heat and making those around me safer. :D Thought I was headed to Toronto for a business trip but it fell through. Take it easy. :)

Well, it’s not white up here yet, but it won’t be long before we get our first frost. Still a month or two before I can break out the skis though. :D And you’re forgetting, our federal governing party isn’t socialist. It’s you buddy Tony Blair who is the socialist. So what are we to think of Tony and GWB being all buddy buddy? Birds of a feather, isn’t that what you said? ;)

Toronto is a fairly harmless place. It’s clean. If you want real Canadian character though, you have to go farther east or to the west. If you ever end up in St. John’s I’m sure fadeaway would Screech you in, (I think that’s the right phrasing fadeaway). And if you ever get to Calgary I’d be happy to buy you a shot of Canadian Whisky or a Big Rock, and take you to a Flames game. Or perhaps we could slap on the boards and hit the slopes. How are you on the black diamond runs? :D

Glad to see you were paying attention.

Gotta keep an eye on those politicians, some are wolves in sheeps clothing and some are wolves in rats clothing. I wouldn't want my daugher dating any of them. (well she's only 2 but you get the point).

I'll let you know if I ever get up that way. A drink, some hockey, and even a run down the slopes would be fine by me. After a near death experience on a run in Vail a few years back I decided I prefer boarding behind a boat on the liquid snow we keep in the lakes down here. :D Our week long winter, the Houston heat, and snow just aren't compatible, go figure. :)
