A.J. Moye suffers stroke in Germany

FRANKFURT, Germany -- Former Indiana basketball player A.J. Moye has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke following a head-on collision with a teammate in practice.

Moye's team, Deutsche Bank Skyliners Frankfurt, said Thursday the 28-year-old forward had been taken to a hospital for "intensive examinations."

Moye played at Indiana from 2001 to 2004, and averaged 5.9 points a game the year the Hoosiers advanced to the 2002 NCAA championship.

The Skyliners said both players were able to continue practicing after Monday's collision, but that Moye had trouble finding words during a phone conversation that evening with his stepfather.

Before training the next day, Moye displayed some "slightly unusual behavior," which later became more noticeable, the club said on its website.

He was first taken to team doctor Herwig Gabriel, then to an emergency room.

"The diagnosis of a stroke is certain, unfortunately," Gabriel told the team's website. "Further prognosis on his condition and therapy cannot be made at this point."

Club officials believe the stroke was the result of the collision because Moye had visited another doctor that morning to examine an injured finger and displayed no signs of being unwell.

Kamil Novak, the team's director of sports, said the player's family was in Germany with him.

"He is one of the most professional players that's ever played for the club," Novak said.

Wow I hadn't heard this until just reading it. I'm a huge IU basketball fan so have seen Moye play a lot. Undersized and not a huge skill set but dude out hustles everyone and has mad heart!

    I wish him well.
