Rockets.com: Bostjan Nachbar's Rookie Diary - Day One

I think Nachbar is going to be an excellent addition to the team. Sounds like he wants to work hard and do what ever it takes to win.

 

Thanks for the new sig! When can I get my Nachbar jersey?

 

His english is better than half the guys' english already on the team.

 

Good Grief! He'll likely be my favorite Rocket by the end of the week, much less the end of the season!

My relatives in Croatia learned English (and Russian) somewhere in the middle of grade school. I'm just guessing, but it's probably the same in Slovenia (where Boki is from).

I love the line where he says he thought there are (still) cowboys everywhere in Texas... kinda like the kangaroo thing for us Aussies...

 

Dear Diary:

Well, adjusting to Texas was difficult, we lied to the media about me getting a hernia operation when I actually was on the crapper for a week after eating Mexican food for the first time...

I know how he feels. When I was in Italy (military service), I had a rough first night. I don't think my system liked espresso very much. Don't worry, Boki, this problem, too, shall pass.

I do admire his English. I expect great things from this kid.

Wow, you're right...never thought about it that way.

Actually, it's Czech for "How are you?" but I'm pretty sure Boki would understand it. Just remember that in most of Europe, "J" is pronounced like the English "Y"... as in Jugoslavia or Stojakovic or Bostjan.

 

Oh really? I been saying Bost JJJAANNN! No y there. Now I got to change. So it would sound like BostYan? That seems to sound funny. But maybe because I've been using a j a lot.

Speaking of J being another sound, if you know Spanish, a J kind of sounds like a H. Well, one time I had to say pajaro, which is a bird, in my Spanish class. It was suppose to sound like paharo, but I said it with the j sound instead. The spanish speakers laughed at me.

Nice read. Nachbar's being glad to be in Houston reminds me of Langhi being glad to be traded to Houston. Langhi's not panning out puts a damper on my enthusiasm.

You know what Rocket player I'd really want to see a diary of right now? Kenny Thomas. We could get a sense of what the team expectations are for him, and how he feels about the experiment at 3. We could also get a sense of what's going on with his contract extension and where he and the Rockets stand on that. (Note to Clutch, if you get a chance to ask KT these questions, that would be awesome.)
