So i've been with Chase ever since the wamu merger and they decided to start charging a 12$ fee every month unless you meet one of their criterias (ex. direct deposit 500$ or more). I'm between undergrad and grad school at the moment so can't apply for a college account and my job doesn't do direct deposit. Any advice on something I can do? The only thing that I can think of is biting the bullet and paying the fee at some other bank at a lower price
My three most hated industries: (1) Insurance (2) Banks (3) Auto mechanics ... and the medical/pharmaceutical industry will probably be on that list in the near future. I, too, have been with Chase since before the WaMu takeover. Now I've gotta investigate this.
Welcome to the skimming economy where corporations devise fees and fines for everything, where your credit score can be used against you if you have too many lines of credit and if you have too few, where businesses bet you won't read the fine print, and where you really don't have many choices. (Try a credit union.)
I'm a long time Wamu bank till Chase took them over. I haven't heard anything about this, time to investigate. I have direct deposit so it wouldn't cost me anything, but that sucks.
Never had a problem with my Chase account. They are charging a fee if you don't direct deposit a check more than $500 bucks? What if you take off direct deposit all together and just deposit your checks at an ATM? Chase ATMs are everywhere. Just call them ask for a manger tell them you have been with them a long time, no overdrafts, yada yada yada, threaten to leave, blah blah.
the change takes place feb 2011 for any other chase users. i wasn't gonna read the notice in the mail either until my mom got one and told me lol. for chase atleast you have to get a direct deposit of 500$ or more from your job/ssi/etc or have a minimum amount of like either 1000 or 1500....like i said i'm in between undergrad and grad so i usually don't have that much i read about the 5x use of debit card but it isn't in the letter so i'm gonna go in and ask them about it. thanks for the replies i'll look in to credit unions
yep capital one looks like the only bank with no fees...for now my only complaint is that there are a limited amount of locations and it probably won't matter but they are also only in a handful of states
Not in the Houston area but we have several local banks that offer free checking. Does Houston not or are there nothing but the majors down there?
I've never had an overage charge once. Those overage charge fees payed for my free checking, but I guess no more free-riding. I am going to switch to a federal credit union for 2011.
