I apologize for bumping this 9 year-old thread, but I'm going to visit San Antonio in the near future and wanted to ask this same question again (since a lot has likely changed). Any must-visit restaurants in San Antonio... preferably on or within walking distance of the Riverwalk?
brisket. It's in San Marcos and Houston also. If you drive for an hour, you can hit up Salt Lick... Yelp is your friend
There's a restaurant called Acenar which is just off of East Houston St. near the river walk. We went there earlier this year, it's a pretty good Mexican restaurant. It's pretty authentic also, I'd definitely try the Fajitas there.
I've ben going to Utsa the past few years, so I mostly know restaurants strictly on the NW side. Here are a couple of those restaurants: Bobby Js old fashioned hamburgers- they have any type of burger you want in 1/3rd and 1/2 pound portions. Kona Grill- grossly popular sushi and awesome happy hour. I believe they consider themselves to be a hawaiiann type place.
there is a nice authentic latin place on 1604 but i cant think of the name of it sorry, i wanna say it is like 1604 and blanco or something close to that
Best food in the city: Il Sogno http://www.texasmonthly.com/2009-10-01/patspick.php It's italian, but possibly one of the best chefs in the state. Cool Space too . . . old Pearl Brewery. Must go! You can get good texmex anywhere . . .
Haha, as I started to read this thread, and getting pissed after realizing it was 9 years old, I thought to myself, "Clutch needs to come down hard on whoever the hell is resurrecting this old thread." Nevermind...
Its funny that I've been living in San Antonio for 4 years and yet is still think the Gringos in Pearland is the best mexican food I have eaten.
Agree wholeheartedly. In the same complex is Sandbar (seafood), which is by the same chef. It is very good as well. Another in the same complex is La Gloria, which is more traditional interior Mexican food.
taco haven on south presa - less than a mile south of downtown. get reggies weekend breakfast special (available 7 days a week). food network declared it "texas' best breakfast" i finish it everytime - its so good that even when you are totally stuffed you carry on b/c you are enjoying it so much. also get a horchada - best ive had north of the border. http://www.tacohavenpresa.com - worth a click just for the sweet conjunto sounds!
not as close to downtown, but if you want the authentic san antonio dining experience i would recommend "los barrios". its on blanco, south of loop 410 and just north of I-10. great atmosphere and killer fajitas. http://losbarrios1.com/default1.aspx another one closer to downtown is "mi tierra" in the mercado. http://www.mitierracafe.com/location.html - good drinks and food.
One of the best burger places in all of Texas... I believe it was ranked #2 in the nation by AOL in 06. ****ing delicious.
Like some others have said, you HAVE to try out La Fogata. It's between 410 and I-10 on Vance Jackson between a couple of used car lots and around some lower end neighborhoods (nothing dangerous or anything). The atmosphere is great and I really like the food. I hear the drinks are made well. If you'll have kids with you, the Magic Time Machine off of 410 on the North side can be fun. The waiters AND waitresses are all decked out as different characters and go all out to impress kids and parents both...Daisy Duke and Catwoman were particularly impressive to this big kid. Food is slightly overpriced but good. I've had steak, prime rib, and some other things there and have never been disappointed.
Had the same sentiment, although I didn't get pissed. I've always thought that Houston has better food than SA anyways--nvm, I just read Clutch is from Austin. Anyone hit tyler's [ex-]wife as suggested by the man himself from the 1st page?
hey noob sandwich, start a new thread. EDIT: oops, sorry..didn't realize it was Clutch who bumped the thread
I second this suggestion. My girlfriend and our two kids took a trip to SA this past summer and went there for dinner one night. We all had an awesome time. Again, the prices is your typical themed-restaurant fare, but none of us were disappointed in the food. It's certainly a really cool, unique place to try at least once.
