Saturday 7pm FoxSports SW Channel 37 (Comcast Houston) Weather: 40 @ kickoff will drop to 32 later that night. Line: Tech - 9 over/under 69 Coogs 42 Tech 56
I'd like to believe the Coogs will come out ready to play and win this game, but I can't see it. The defense is putrid...I'm talking Texans bad. Two things give me a glimmer of hope. First, David Piland had statistically his best game last time out. Maybe he has turned a corner. Also, the QB draw and/or scramble has killed the Coogs the last couple weeks. Taylor Potts is only slightly more mobile than your average statue, so he's not likely to get loose.
I figured Tulsa was a toss-up, and I gave us no chance vs. UCF or USM and they still made it competitive. So... it's hard to write them off completely. If Tuberville doesn't get cute and runs the ball it will be a sure win, but, Tech didn't figure that out last year, so who knows. I have to think the team will play their best game of the year here, but I don't know if it will be enough.
I'm wondering if the Coogs have thought about abandoning the hurry up offense if only to keep the defense off the field as much as possible.
things to keep in mind. 1. Techs defense is also brutal. If your assumption is that Tubberville is a defensive coach and he would get them in the right direction. That would be wrong this is worse than any of Leachs teams. 2. Techs offense is no longer explosive. They are extremely inconsistent but this is nothing like Leachs offense. Can UH still make a bowl? Tech has already clinched that and winning this game wont matter too much theyre in a crap bowl regardless. If UH still has that to play for still than thats a huge factor....
OKay I dont see a blowout for Tech than. UH has more to play for. It is in Lubbock but Thanksgiving weekend so there will be plenty of empty seats. If UH can bring it on offense than it will be a close game.. I hope I'm wrong though! I would love for Tech to win by 30!
Yeah, I'm not worried about the offense. They always seem to find a way to get 30 points regardless of how many INTs Piland throws. A lot like the Texans, they seem to make average offenses look really good though.
If Tech lines up and jams the ball down our throat we have no chance. However Tech sometimes convinces themselves that it is dishonorable for them to win with less than 450 yards passing. If they give us a break and decide to play solely to impress Kliff Kingsbury, we have a punchers chance.
I'm sure they have at least thought about it. At this point, Sumlin would probably do just about anything to get the ship righted. With a loss, they will have finished the season 3-7 in their last ten. Winning this game and getting to a bowl game is very important for the program. Working under the assumption that Keenum isn't going to be granted a sixth year, the QBs (and the entire offense) could use those extra practices.
Don't lose to Rice (1-2 vs. the Nerds) and Sumlin would have those practices. Going to be an interesting 2011. This is now Sumlin's team.
