How far do you think we would've gone if we had won in 07 playoffs vs Jazz

That series still irks me. It feels like the one that got away, heading into the playoffs I felt this was the year they'd go all the way. Anyone else felt that way?

How far do you think we would've gone if we had won in that first round

One of the last stages before death, introspection.

    ;)

After a few more loses, we'll be at the acceptance stage.

We played well against the Spurs that season. I have a feeling the Rockets would have beat them in an interesting 6 or 7 games.

I never felt like we were better than the Jazz. iirc the rockets would barely beat the Jazz when we were at home, then we'd get blown out on their court. We were very fortunate to have game 7 at home, but even then we lost.

that matchup with yao guarding boozer was too much to overcome.

I think that was the only year we legitimately had a chance to win the whole thing.

Even if we did win that series, Yao and McGrady would be completely gassed out. They were literally doing everything on both ends of the court, so I doubt they would be able to carry on the same performance for another 3 series.

If we had the same Yao and McGrady of 07 with last year's team however, then we would have won at least a championship by now.

Then again, ifs don't mean anything.

    WCF Finals

The Warriors beat the Mavericks that year. Rockets would have faced them in the 2nd round. Golden State was a tough matchup against the Rockets too, but I think the Rockets woulda took care of business against them.

They would have ran out of gas by the time they faced the Spurs. I'm sure Michael Finley would have found a way to foil the Rockets' plans. And come on, that team had a PLAYOFF game where only 4 players scored, how strong were the Rockets REALLY? If Van Gundy didnt play doghouse director and played Bonzi Wells in the playoffs instead of suspending him, THAT woulda surely helped.

2007 would have been one of the worst champions of all time. It'd have been the boring Lebron Cavs or maybe the boring Rockets with Luther Head as the 6th man. Instead it went to the boring Spurs.

The prevailing thought was once McGrady/Yao went over the 1st round hump then it would have broken open the damn all the way to the title. Since we'll never know, we can go with that thought.

Well, we didn't pass Jazz. Face the fact than live in imagination.
Yes, we suck, we need some changes to happen

Yao would have killed the warriors as usual, then the spurs would have been a big challenge, but if the rockets got past them, we could have easily beaten the cavs

Incorrect. Basketball is a game of matchups. Just because you lose in the first round doesn't mean you couldn't have beaten every other team you would have had to play in future rounds.

With a few lucky bounces of the ball (or someone sacking up and grabbing a damn rebound), we could have taken game 7 against Utah. We would have been favored against GS and probably would have lost in 6 or 7 to the Spurs.

This line of thinking will get you nowhere. We were a better team than Utah, but just got the worst possible matchup.

The same thing happened in the mid 90s with Seattle. We just couldnt beat them but were strong elsewhere. If Denver doesnt knock off Seattle and they beat Dreams Rockets, were we not contenders?

The Jazz on the other hand got the best possible matchups and made it the WCF. They used thier "we are so close" logic and made zero changes because they werent a WCF caliber team, they just got lucky.

It couldn't have been any worse than LeBron vs the Spurs. LeBron vs McGrady and Yao would have drawn much more interest.

I'm sure the role players would have done better against the Warriors defense. That would have helped build their confidence against the Spurs.

Then two years after scoring 13 points in 33 seconds, McGrady would have loved to play the Spurs in the WCF. I really wanted to see what this guy could have done if he made it that far.

And we all know McGrady dominated LeBron that year.

The Houston Rockets of the 90's were much better than the 2007 one.

Again, "Spurs Killer" Bonzi Wells. Not only would that have been an added story line, thats WHY we got him. Yeah he was "Bouncy Wales" and depressed from not getting his big money contract by the time we got him, but you don't have the luxury of "proving a point" about discipline when your next best options are Luther Head and Steve Novak (and the V-Span debacle...)

    Thats irrelevant.

The Rockets were favored in 3 of the 4 playoff matchups that year on the way to the finals. Thats contender status.

Okay so by your same logic:

Were the mavs contenders that year?
