Arian Foster in Top 10 of Pro Bowl voting overall! Anybody surprised by this?

According to Houstontexans.com, Arian Foster is number 9 in the Pro Bowl voting overall. Seems a little fast to be getting that kind of respect, but we do sell out every game and Texans fans could be jamming the ballot box. So is this a case of national respect, or Texans fans gone crazy? With this news, the Texans could very well have a Offensive lineman make the Pro Bowl as a add on or a vote in next year. Top running backs have a tendency to get there O lineman voted too! Thoughts?

As we all know he's leading in rush yards and rushing TDs (over AP by 5), so it's well deserved. AP broke 1000 faster in his breakout season, but Foster already tied his TDs that year (and is on pace to outscore AP's season best 18).

BUT Vonta better be getting the spotlight too. I want a Leach pro bowl jersey dangit.

It's national. I don't live in Houston, and most football people I know, knowing I'm a Texans fan, always tell me how much they like Foster. Pretty much the first thing they say about the Texans.

Like vinsensual said, Vonta absolutely deserves the Pro Bowl this year, and so does, in my opinion, one of the lineman (Wade Smith or Chris Myers).

I've actually seen it mentioned a couple times in the national media. Let's see if I can find it somewhere...

Edit: Still looking. In years past, the guy has sucked. This year, though, he is stepping it up, and has been playing great. One article I'm reading now says that he has been the best run blocking center in the league. There's no arguing that he is part of the reason (as well as about 5 -6 other guys) has been having such a great season.

When he's providing so many points for fantasy owners, how does he go unnoticed? And he really is awesome, someone tell Kubiak!

I saw him one one of those promos for the league or something like that on the 101 network. Foster Australian for MVP!*

I've heard accolades towards myers too and it's all from this season because last year many including myself wanted him replaced by Caldwell. We have played a few 3-4 defenses a few times and there hasn't been monster penetration by any nt's that I can remember. With this zbs you see some odd blocking schemes and sometimes myer has to engage the edge rusher, and we've seen the results with guys like d ward even getting good ypc.

I think a lot of us got an unfairly negative view of Myers after the Jets game last season. That play where he gets tossed aside like a rag doll looked AWFUL and then it gets turned into a animated GIF that gets passed around and posted on bulletin boards, etc. Overall I don't think he was horrible last year, maybe average or slightly below with one really bad moment to start the season.

I laughed at that GIF for about five minutes straight, and that, indeed, was the lowest opinion I've ever had of the guy.

This year has been a revelation for him, though. He's hardly ever called for penalties (then again, what center is?) and he usually leads the offensive line as far as the blocking goes. In fact, if you watch most of Foster's 10+ yard runs, Myers is the one lineman down the field making a block on the second level. That, I think is why he deserves at least a consideration at the Pro Bowl.

Fantasy football causes people to take notice and respect a breakout player a lot sooner than they would have 10 years ago.

He is leading the league in yards and TD's. He is far from a fluke.

Too bad Foster won't be able to play in this year's Pro Bowl because he will be getting ready to play in the Super Bowl.

I don't know where the webpage that shows positional leaders, but there's a ravens fanpage that says 5 ravens are leading in their voting. Reed, Lewis, Ngata, Oher and McLain for fullback.

Unfair since McLain gets the goal line carries and has td stats to support him.

Mario had 14.5 sacks in 2008 and didnt sniff the Pro Bowl. First year breakout stars seem to have a problem getting voted in there first great year! I think its the fantasy football ball domination that is getting everybodys attention!

If the Texans were 7-3 or 8-2 he'd be in serious discussion for MVP.

Sounds about right! Early in the season he was on alot of Top 10 MVP lists. The good thing is after a year like this, next year he will be getting the star/MVP treatment as long as we are good!
