The Fox Southwest guys are terrible. Keep them away from my Pregame and Postgame. I would like to know what offense the opponent will be running, what sets they will use to attack perceived Rocket weaknesses, and I would like the same from the Rockets. Mario Ellie paired with some of the 610 sports talk guys would be good.
I'd like a format sort of like the post game of the Astros on 51, where you can have fans call in and ask questions/vent frustrations. Having "the Shark" on there to berate Cato would be nice. I like the suggestion of having a couple of the older players giving input, as well.
ricerocket and B covered the territory as far as content. I like the x's and o's. Maybe some questions by email - easier than calling in. I think Mike Newlin, Mario Elie, and Matt Bullard generally have the best insights.
I think they should have more instant replays after good plays!! and highlights from around the league.
Have a segment where it shows rockets players training programs. Let them tell viewers how many reps they do and how their exercises will benefit them and help any viewers on their own programs as well.
All of the above and... would like to know how opposing teams (coaches and players) view us and prepare to play the rockets--what our perceived weaknesses and strengths are.
I want to say thanks to the people at the front office for letting the fans voice their opinion, something that has not happened before. The new marketing guys are doing a great job by letting the fans voice their opinions, on uniforms, halftime shows and stuff like this. This lets us fans feel closer to the team. Thanks guys, and keep up the good work!
I'd love to see a segment every once in a while on Rockets' history. For instance, if we are playing the Bulls one night, they could show highlights and talk about one of the Dream/Jordan matchups. Just something to get some historical perspective on things. I always like seeing the clips of Mo Malone or Ralph Sampson.
As long as we win, I don't care what's on the pregame/halftime/postgame shows. If we're a losing team, I personally wouldn't give a crap about any game analysis/player features/highlights/human interest stories/or whatever that they decide to show. (Though more PowerDancers couldn't hurt )
Pre-game: They don't need to improve this that much. They could show highlights from the previous night's game. What they're doing right now is fine though, with Calvin and Bill talking about the match-ups and the game, BSing and whatnot, with a few clips of top players from the other team. Halftime:The can be improved ALOT. Enough of stupid features and coverage of community service etc. I know they should do that occasionally (once a month), but they should do more features like they had last year when they talked about Westside during the summer. They should do features that help fans get to know the players a little better. Also, a big improvement needs to be made on the Highlights. They SUCK. They need to show more highlights, and from multiple angles. Maybe with a little commentary from Calvin. Basically: 1.Improve Highlights, add Calvin's commentary 2.No lame features. Do player profiles, and basketball relevant features 3.Maybe Calvin can go use the telestrator and break down a couple of key plays for the Rockets and the opponent, showing how the defense and offense were set up and what play was run. Post-game: 1. Show highlights of the second half AND the FIRST HALF. Sometimes people miss the first half and want to see the full game highlights. As said previously, have better highlights and cut the BS. 2.Get guests to discuss the game. NOT BLINEBURY or other dumb sports writers/radio jocks/ etc. They know less than most fans. I'm talking about EX PLAYERS & COACHES LIke Elie & Newlin were nice 3. Calvin or the guests could also talk about where we need to improve and what we did well. (With telestrator and replays)
Half time: Behind the scenes with the team. Give Francis a camcorder for the 82 game season. Let him go hog wild with the thing. I'm sure Francis can interview the team and get better "inside scoop" a lot easier than a reporter could. Let Calvin interview Yao. That would be hilarious. How about 2-minute basketball techniques from Calvin? How does the pick-and-roll work? What's the proper way to shoot a free throw? Dribbling skills. The jump shot. Just short 2 minute technique skits. I know I would have loved this as a kid back in the 80's. I'm sure there are kids out there today that watch the Rockets would love to learn something from Calvin.
Wouldn't it be awesome if ESPN did a Sidelines Show for Houston like they did for the Clippers last year. It would be really good with Yao having his rookie year along with just getting to see the behind-the-scenes type stuff. I liked the Clippers show alot, anyone know if we could all contact ESPN and beg...
They need a copmplete make over! Keep it local, keep it basketball, keep it clean. No jumping arround the state, we want Bill and Calvin, no strangers to the game only local personalities! No reports from Fox News, just a local show but on Fox.
To me what needs the most work is the Around the League segment, a scoreboard which most of the time is behind really doesn't cut it. They should have plenty of high lghts and a complete wrap up of the night. Before the game they should talk to the star player of the opposing team, when we lose they shouldn't interview the star player from our opponents, it's just kind of an insult. To let it realize it's full potential, I think it'd be best for them to get rid of Lisa in favor of a young hip host or a personality such as Lisa Guerro from the best damn sports show period. But I do think an ex player could fill it nicely. Half time should just be high lights from the game, a look around the league with high lights, and come back and have Bill and Calvin give us the stats from the 1st half. Winning solves all problems, so I'm certain that if the Rockets are winning they'll be plenty of people watching the pre game, half time, post game, and of course the game.
Man, you guys really rock. There are some really tremendous ideas in this thread. I can tell you that I spoke to their broadcasting people tonight and they absolutely LOVE hearing all this. They were blown away by the response and the ideas. Great job!
