Numbers always go down in Europe as the game is much slower and more teamwork. Elitescorers like Navarro average around 16ppg and that's being the team's go-to-guy. The leading scorers in Europe score like 16-19 ppg, right now 19.3 in Spain, slightly above 16 in Germany. NBA guys won't average 20+ppg in Europe, the games are dictated by setting picks, screens and passing a lot. You won't see a guy dribble for more than 8sec to score 1on1 like you see it in the NBA. It's about team-effort, not about one superstar outscoring the opponent.
Seems like the US-members think Euroleague is some kind of Super-League with all the best teams... The 24 best teams from the different national leagues participate. Each teams play home and away. At the end the field is cut to 16, divided into four-team groups. Then Quarterfinals begin(place 1-2 from each group). From there on it's a best-of-five playoff-system. Euroleague is a tournament, not a real league.
Iverson's team does not play in the Euroleague. His team plays in the Eurocup. Two completely different leagues. The Eurocup is the second level of Europe. The league below the Euroleague level. You have to win the Eurocup championship in order to be promoted to play in the top level Euroleague.
Someone should do a poll on when AI will come back to the states. Even with his money woes, I not sure he's gonna last a long time over there. Especially if they miss one or two of his paychecks. That's one thing about the NBA, players can "bank" on the direct deposit happening twice a month no matter what.
Yep, he scored 18 points tonight in limited minutes. I'm a die hard Besiktas fan and going every games, all i can say about Iverson is he needs to get his conditioning back and he'll be very fine in europe. Also our coach sucks(he doesnt even draw sets over Iverson on offence), probably he will get fired in this week, with a new coach I'm sure Iverson will find his ryhthm.
Does AI really have money woes? I know he's not the brightest player around but he's probably one of the all time money earners in the After Jordan era of the NBA. I'm pretty sure his turkey league foray is one last ditch attempt to interest a team in the NBA to sign him. LOL I wonder if he regrets faking back injuries when the Pistons benched him. Playing in the turkey league must be 100x more humiliating for him than becoming a bench player.
I thought this was fairly common knowledge. AI has a serious gambling problem and is broke. That's the reason he's playing in Turkey. He has a major alcohol problem too. Didn't it come out a few months ago how low AI had sunk? The lethal combo of addiction and gambling had him by the throat. He was at the bottom and couldn't go lower.
Damn. How the hell can you end up spending all that money in less than 3 years? I did some research and it looks like AI made over 140M on employment contracts alone...not to mention his shoe deals and other endorsements (50M+a lifetime contract from reebok at the very least). Well, I pity the guy and his family but at the same time AI is in my mind one of the worst things to happen to the NBA. Relentless chucker, hates practice, more about being gangster and fixing his cornrows than improving his game. Can't say I didn't see it coming.
He does not play in the Euroleague. He plays in the Eurocup. It's a completely different league. http://www.eurocupbasketball.com/ulebcup/competition/results/showgame?gamecode=20 How is playing 31:29 minutes in a 40 minute long game limited playing time? That's a lot of playing time in Europe. Many of the best players in Europe don't even play more than 25 minutes or so.
I don't care how slow the game is. Iverson making 1 shot out of 6 shots to score 2 pts is poor in any league.
Of course, but my reply was to some of the guys thinking NBA players would score more ppg in Europe, which is not true cause of the slower offense. I didn't defend the 2 pts.
He didn't blow all that money in 3 years. AI has been gambling a long time. Seems like I remember tidbits with his name coming up here and there at gambling establishments over the years. People talk about mar1juana, but gambling is another problem among NBA players that the general public isn't fully aware of. Antoine Walker earned north of $100 million. Remember his crash and burn story? MJ and Charles Barkley have made headlines. Those guys are just the tip of the iceberg. Not everyone fritters away their entire fortune, but NBA players have transferred a lot of wealth to Vegas. High stakes gambling has been a big part of NBA culture for 20-30 years. It's sad. I say that as someone who has zero desire to gamble and can't understand why it appeals to anyone. Been to Vegas a bunch of times for business conventions and I think the strip is trash. Just my own personal view.
So far, Iverson has been an absolute disaster signing for Besiktas. http://www.eurocupbasketball.com/ulebcup/competition/results/showgame?gamecode=36
Iverson isn't broke. What a r****ded rumor. Just because he's black and a "thug" doesn't make it true.
Race has nothing to do with it. Anybody can become broke if they're stupid about money, and by all accounts AI knows as much about keeping money as he does about making plays for others.
