Why would we want to tank? If we swap a good player with the Knicks this year, they will do better next year and give us a sucky 2012 player. DUHHHHH

its almost a lose-lose situation; with they way we're playing even if we do by some miracle make the playoffs, it'll be as an 8th seed, 7th at best and we'll probably end up getting swept in the first round by the lakers or say the spurs. and if we tank the season, we'll end up with a high lottery pick but a weak draft class other than harrison barnes, whom we won't be able to get unless we by another miracle get the first pick. I think we'll be better off entrusting morey to make a somewhat bold move and trade for some 2-way players or someone who can legitimitely play defense and help carry an offense during certain dry spells that we are so acclimated to.

I don't mind us doing well, it would be more fun to watch, but realistically how far off do you believe we are from contending for the championship?

Tanking implies giving up. I suggest that a better strategy is a complete rebuilding effort.

I can't think of a player we could trade for or realistically sign that would make us a contender this season or next.

I don't believe a draft pick in the 12-16 range is worth anything as far as rebuilding.

Anything less than an appearance in this years Conference finals would be disappointing, so I am convinced I will be disappointed with the results of this season, unless we make moves that pay huge dividends in the future.

The highest reward to that end I can think of is somehow acquiring potentially high draft picks.

Yao hopefully will contribute next season. Lowery is playing well. There are some other nice pieces (Scola, Brooks, Hill, Martin) But those are role players.

IMO it's just too much to expect Yao to be a go to superstar at this stage considering the risk side of future injury.

I am hopeful for a complete rebuild mode soon.

Why dont we just sign greg oden and resign yao? go for it 2 years from now, give both of them 2 years off (this and next). Also, we should put battier in the front office, as a scout, or as a defensive coach. Take him off the floor.

This team has high potential, I wouldn't want to tank right now, let's wait till Yao and Brooks comes back and see how this team does, then later I will give my saying on this topic, but right now, it's tooooooooooooooooooooooooo early for this question.

I say we go into full tankage mode. It's obvious this team isn't close to championship caliber.

Yao and Brooks aren't going to change that.

Yao will always be a question mark on any given day...hell, when he does play he's a huge chemistry killer. You can't have a guy like Yao in the lineup who plays less than pretty much everyone else yet changes the entire team philosophy when he does play...it's a ridiculous strategy that will start annoying everyone else who's giving their full effort everynight. It seems like this 'kid gloves' treatment of Yao would create some resentment in the locker room.

Brooks is pretty good, but if he isn't consistently scoring he gives us little else and makes us even worse defensively...if that's even possible.

We need to be thinking of the future, especially after watching this crap over the past 13 games.

Watch the game, not the name.

    This team have no potential.

This is the perfect tanking team.

Why wouldn't you want your team in the playoffs?

I dunno about you guys, but I'm tired of losing.

As stated, the pick swap with NY really means that we only help out NY by tanking to get a better draft pick. Not a positive for me.

As far as developing young players, Ish has plenty of minutes, as does Bud in my opinion. I'd like to see Hill get a little bit more, but I don't mind watching him earn it. If he really has potential, he'll get more minutes.

JT, I really don't have much for him anymore. I don't think he'll ever be a rotation guy for the Rockets. Patterson is fine in the D League for now. A month from now, let's start seeing him we still suck.

So in short, what do we gain by tanking?

Yao out= Easy points in the paint for other teams and Less Rebounds, Less shots talen as a team

Brooks Out= No speed, No dishing out to the wide open player after using his quickness, and no easy layups after using his quickness, and with Brooks being out, that's why we have other guys shooting the 3 ball and missing them, while Brooks is a great 3 point shooter.

    This team has HIGH POTENTIAL!

    for better pick position?

Also, if we decide to tank, we need to be ready to get grid of the contracts of Martin, Scola, Lowry and Miller.

Most importantly, we need to trade Yao, Brooks and Battier for picks.

all these trades will have to come after the decision: tank or not.

Or people who didn't want to "tank" last season.

Last season I wanted to tank because I knew they weren't good enough to do much in the playoffs if they got there. This season I rather they make the playoffs since the organization seems to like mid to low draft picks.

If we get first pick next year and dump Yao's contract it would be an awesome rebuilding tool... Im starting to have my doubt's about Morey's ability to acquire big name players however...

I really see the Knicks making it into the Eastern Conference playoffs so their swap pick isn't going to mean much...

Hell we can even try and pick up Bosh still.. The Heat trio isn't doing too hot and Bosh would seem like the odd man out if they continue to do poorly...

    Bosh and Melo 2011!!

Isn't this year's draft really crappy,

and isnt there like a chance for a lockout so it will be even more crappy.

As much as i want a high pick, if we can't get anything outta it, might as well play it out

    I voted for picks.

But, I donno, it really depends. Is Yao still sucking come playoff time and our team has no identity? Then yeah, I'd probabbly pick to tank. But if Yao is close to where he left off, Martin and Brooks turn into legit finishers and the rest of our team improves (and possibly trading for a legit starting SF), then I'd say go for it.

Honestly I think one tough player could make a difference, but we're in a perfect position to tank. Imagine this team with Perry Jones at the SF spot instead of Battier. Solves our SF problem, rebounding problem, and weak side defense all in one move, and we're a championship contender next season.
