People are blaming the secondary too much when the scheme is riddled with holes, predictable, and just plain terrible. It's not like the rest of the defense is playing well either. Quarterbacks have all day and runningbacks aren't getting wrapped up off the line of scrimmage. We still haven't had our full linebacking corps, first Cushing was out then Demeco immediately got hurt. Mario only decides to show up once every three games. Frank Bush should have been fired a long time ago, but tomorrow would still be fine with me.
They really, really aren't. Find me a secondary in the league today that's more of a joke than ours. Last year, the worst pass defense gave up 265 ypg 2008: 259 2007: 265 2006: 239 2005: 277 2004: 263 2003: 237 2002: 268 WE'RE GIVING UP OVER 300 PASSING YARDS EACH GAME We've given up, in 10 games, more yards than 3 teams did over the full season last year, 6 teams the year before that. We're on pace to surrender 4800 yards by the end of the year, when 4000 is already the cut off line for epic fail. They could literally be the worst pass defense in NFL history. I hate the line too, at least Okoye and Cody. Mario is allowing nagging injuries to mute his season (again), though Smith has been solid. Still, we've managed 17 sacks, far from awesome, but not pathetic (average is about 20). The secondary is outclassed and very poorly coached. They're literally making everyone's job harder - can't blitz because you can't take anyone out of coverage. Can't play up on the run because no one can handle man. Can't get sacks when we do generate pressure because a QB needs less than 3 seconds to find an open target. I've never seen a unit this abysmal.
rodney harrison and steve young have came out and criticized the coaching on the defensive side. why hasn't frank bush been fired yet?
This morning, I was trying to stop someone with my Texans' poster from doing something, and it broke.
So a coworker says "Hey, we're going to the tunnels for lunch... interested?" I said: "Nah, I'll exploit the TEXANS." "Huh?!?!?", he said. "Duh. I'll pass." ©SwoLy-D, I probably will be here all week, sadly.
The worst was 95 Falcons, who gave up an average of 283 passing yards a game. Gibbs and his boys are looking to blow the old record out of the water.
Not really. If the man's house needs to be burned down, then it needs to be burned down. Gotta instill a little fear for his life as a best policy to start getting better.
It is just laughable that no one on the defensive staff was fired today. This is just continuing the ongoing joke that is the comedy stylings of the Houston Texans Franchise
Does anyone see this defense holding even rusty smith/ chris simms to under 250? Much less orton flacco or vick?
I can only imagine what Vick is going to do to this defense. He could easily throw for 400 and run for 200.
Way too entirely miss my point. My point wasn't that the secondary isn't godawful (of course it is, I don't need to see the gory statistics), my point was that people are blaming it too much in proportion to the rest of the terrible defense and the awe-inspiringly terrible coaching. The whole defense sucks. And whose fault is that? Frank Bush, ultimately, and after that, Gary Kubiak's, who hired him and supervises him. It's their handpicked players using their schemes and their instruction who are failing so badly. Ultimately, it's on the coaches, and it's gotten to the point where the only solution is a full-blown housecleaning. New coaches, and let them start phasing in their own defensive players and salvaging what can be salvaged from this defense.
I'm sad to say that I hope he does to us what he did to the Redskins. Hopefully that will open Mcnair's eyes and heads will roll sooner than later.
