I don't understand why you're upset that the Rockets are scoring an easy two.

Right now, the Rockets need all the points they can get.

Instead of "he never has been" I think the poster meant to say, "he never should be."

i didnt know Kevin martin was the reason we give up so many offensive rebounds? I guess that means it has nothing to do with the fact that our starting center and power foward have a combined 5 inch vertical.

Why not? He's getting us points. He got us 12 points in the 4th against Toronto.

I don't see how people can hate on his offense. Defense and rebounding are our problems.

I don't mind the easy two. But let me ask you a question. Where does he get all that energy to run down the court to get the easy two? From slackinng on defense. My point is, if he spent that engery locking down on D we wouldn't be this bad. Yes I do blame him for our bad start. He put up stats in Sac and his team sucked and its happening again. Its like he would rather be selfish and get some of his points by cherry picking instead then he is about defense and helping his team win. Like I said time and time before. Martin is nothing more then an all stat guy that doesn't do anything to help his team win. He gets his points early and against good teams disappears.

Shooting guards are supposed to be the first one down the court - forwards need to stay back to ensure the rebound and point guard needs to get the ball to bring it up the court

Frankly all shooting guards should cherry pick like Martin

Um, you people do realize that there are coaches on this team, right?

Early in the season, Martin was told to leak out for easy baskets. Yao and Scola and or Hayes or Hill were there to grab rebounds, Martin is fast and that was what he was told to do. And he's darn good at it!

Lately, with Yao out and our rebounding going down, he's been told to stay back more and focus on rebounding, which he's done.

Jeez... are you people really this ignorant about what happens in a basketball game?

Actually we are 24th in PPP. And defensive rebounding as a standalone stat means very little. The Lakers and Jazz are the two worst dfensive rebound rate teams in the league despite having good defenses. Rebounding is just another part of defens. Good defense where you aren't just scampering around the perimeter doubling everyone (I hate when Bill Worell calls that good defense) will lead to being in good position to get rebounds.

What? At least he is scoring - I mean, 24 points a game on 46% from the field (39% 3's and 91% FT!) is not bad at all. You look at Lowry - you can admire his defense as much as you want to, dude is not even shooting 30% from the field which is not bad but simply horrible. Or CBud only shooting 16% 3's. Or Courtney Lee. Those guys need to step up. Martin will never be a good defender, but like I said he is a very good offensive player.
Yes, we need better defense, but I don't think Martin is the only one to blame because he at least delivers on the offensive end.

Actually, Martin is a good defender. He's not a stopper, but I have seen him stop Ray Allen so badly that Allen nearly cried when asked about it.

Any SG/PG can easily score on Martin, because Martin is usually far away his man to do anything

Nothing wrong with that if our guys are securing the rebound. Cherry picking usually means that the player is bailing out on the defense, or running the other way BEFORE the rebound is made.

I would be upset about this if I felt Martin has the talent or strength to be productive on the boards or defense.

Kevin Martin is what is - I'm shocked it took people this long to figure it out.

    From DraftExpress.com http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Kevin-Martin-3450/#ixzz16ZV07EPN

This was taken two years ago and seems very accurate.

I don't know why people keep saying this. Kevin Martin has a lower career field goal percentage than Kobe Bryant, that's right Kobe freaking Bryant! Combine that with his crappy defense and he's not even remotely close to an "efficient" player.

His TS% is pretty much the highest in the league?

FG% is flawed because some players take more three pointers than others. a 35% 3pt shooter is considered a ok shooter. Im pretty sure AB's FG% was lower than RAJON RONDO. does that make rondo a better scorer/shooter by any means?

You are complaining that after the ball is secured Martin is breaking down court? You want him to hold up and stay behind the ball? What are asking for?
