When was the last time the Rox lost an FA?

I guess I ask to see what light this sheds on Mobley's possible flight. For the record, I think he won't be going.

My question is: when was the last time the Rockets had a free agent of their own they wanted to sign but nevertheless lost to another team? In a related theme, when was the last time that a Rockets player under contract demanded a trade? That is, besides Pippen whose situation is familiar to us all.

It seems to me that the Rockets and Rudy T are an organization and coach that players like to play for. I think this is why I can't remember a single instance, besides Pippen, where a player could have stayed with us and didn't want to. Are there situations I'm forgetting about?

Sam Mack was the last FA I can remember. Elie didn't force a trade, but didn't keep it a secret that he wasn't happy. Maxwell quit the team. Not everyone is a fan of the Rockets and Rudy.

Sam Mack doesn't count since the Rocks didn't really want him. Who wants a scrub anyways? Actually, he is wanted by the police.

Yeah, Mack doesn't count because he wanted to play for the Rockets a whole lot, but we wouldn't sign him. Elie is a special case I think because of the circumstances around his departure; besides the Rockets weren't clamoring to keep him either. I forgot about Maxwell, though he was in the same boat as Elie. I also forgot about Thomas Hamilton who essentially quit for whatever his reasons were. I think this a trend where bad seeds are weeded out as much as they are leaving. However, there are still no players on the table who have left Grant Hill style: seeking greener pastures without bad blood. Seeing as there is no bad blood between Mobley and the Rockets (as far as I know), I think it is a good omen/track-record for the Rockets.

The Rockets wanted to sign Mack, but not for how much/long Mack wanted. That is somewhat analogous to Cuttino's situation in that Cuttino may want more than the Rockets can offer him, whereas Mack wanted more than the Rocket would offer him.

That's my understanding of the Mack situation at least. I don't think the Rockets were happy about not being able to come to terms with him.

The Rockets MO is typically to trade away players before they become free agents which may make it appear as though no one has wanted to leave for greener pastures, but the truth may be that they never had the opportunity.

Big Mo was traded, he did not leave via free agency.

Actually Mo had agreed to a deal with Philly and was leaving anyway. The Rockets matched their offer and traded him to the 76ers so as not to get no restitution in the deal.

So, Mo left on his own...similar to Pippen leaving the Bulls.

But it was still a trade and not free agency. [IMG]

Please do not degrade Moses Malone by comparing him to Quitten. [IMG]

How about Alex English way back when! We signed him to an offer sheet and the Nuggets matched it.
