Kobe Bryant and wife expecting first child in February

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Kobe Bryant, a three-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, is going to be a first-time father.

    Bryant said Monday his wife, Vanessa, is expecting a daughter in February.


    ''Beautiful, isn't it?'' Bryant said, grinning.


    Bryant said the couple is mulling names.


    ''We change our mind like every other day,'' he said. ''We're just taking our time with it.''


    The couple married in April 2001.


    Teammate Shaquille O'Neal, the unmarried father of five children, has volunteered to be a godparent, but Bryant said he has family members who will fill that role.


    ''Experience is the best teacher,'' O'Neal said. ''The only lesson it's probably going to teach him is the same lesson it taught me: Don't bring your stresses home. Because the kids see that, the wife sees that, so you have to leave the stresses of the job here.''


    Didn't kobe once said he want to name his kid "Shaq"?

    I think that is sweet. I told my bestfriend that Vanessa looked pregnant at the teen choice awards. I think he will be a great father. Shaq having five kids is off the hook!

    I bet they'll give the kid some weird name like Sunshine or Tamarilda or Noah

    Noah Bryant...that actually had a pretty nice ring to it...

    Then he can be referred to as "Koju".
    Anything but Bryant Bryant.
    Larry is a good name.

    Kobe is coming into his own a bit, but roll your eyes all you want, more than half his mannerisms are taken from Michael Jordan, and that's just the truth.

    Of course, his wife IS white, so they'll have to wait until the baby is born to see if they can call the baby black angus...

    They are similar to MJ's yes. But do you think that Kobe goes out of his way to be like Mike?

    Is he like Mike because he drinks Sprite, instead of Gatorade? Or because he wears adidas, instead of Nike?

    VC is the one who drinks Gatorade and has a shoe deal with Nike.

    Kobe is himself, which happens to be similar to MJ. If MJ weren't around, Kobe would probably be the same guy that he is, and this whole MJ wannabe thing would be in the trash can, where it belongs.

    Kobe's wife is like 20 I think.

    Kobe married her when she was right out of HS, around the time I graduated from HS too, in the summer of 2000.

    Kobe once admitted to playing back recordings of Jordan's voice over and over, and trying to mimic them so that he sounded just like him.

    So yes, he goes out of his way to be like Mike.

    You have to admit, he does a good job of it.

    "It's a challenge, and uh, we love a challenge...and we're up to the challenge. It's a challenge."

    The walk, gum-chewing and shooting form were also all ripped from Jordan. Just the basic mannerisms and facial expressions as well. It's almost erie.
