I think the OP is confusing "Cherry Picking" with taking off after the shot leaves the hand of the opponent or when there is a loose ball to get an easy bucket before the defense reacts. Cherry Picking is not crossing half court making your team play 4 on 5 and waiting for an outlet pass. I think Kevin Martin does takes off way too soon when there is a loose ball or when the shot is up. I think with our deficiency on rebounds and lack of passion, we need everyone back to secure the ball. It's not like we have a player like Dwight Howard who you know, without a doubt, will get the loose ball or rebound. There was one time that stood out during the Toronto game. We played good D causing a loose ball, Kevin Martin darted to the other end of the court not knowing if we got the ball, we didn't. Toronto picked up the loose ball and threw it to his uncovered man for an easy layup. He really needs to stay and help secure the ball IMO.
In other words the OP was saying, if he only gave as much effort on trying to score to playing some defense, he would be a top 5 SG. Instead we got a one way player who scores 30, gives up 32.
I haven't made a decision on Martin as I haven't seen many games. But I will say competitiveness and nastiness is underrated. That's how the Knicks got to the Finals in 94 and almost beat us. I really didn't understand how effective that was until I saw the Knicks. The 99 Knicks also had a guy in the same echelon as Martin, Latrell Sprewell, who seemed to be a more effective player even though he wasn't as efficient. I still think a player like Martin can thrive, but he needs the right kind of players around him. It is also important to understand that the vision for the team hasn't been fulfilled yet with all the injuries and lack of time on the court together to gain chemistry. I still believe.
Im disappointed Morey even brought him to this team as if he was to make us contenders this year with yao, we needed a top swingman next to yao even I knew that Martin is far from that, Theres a reason he's never made the all-star team and has never carried a team to the playoffs because he's not a 1st option player on a championship team which is what we needed with yao as a 2nd option.
I don't think Morey's only plan was to have Yao and Martin as our 1st and 2nd options. He brought in a bunch of "assets" so he could trade them for a true #1 option. Unfortunately, that hasn't come into fruition yet.
You never get an all-star player for a Carl Landry. It was a good trade, he's doing what was supposed to do. We will appreciate it more when wins start coming.
QUESTION: what is his 4th quarter averages? He seems to disappear for extended periods of time. Rocket River
Cherry picking is staying on the other end of the court and not playing D. Playing D and then running down the court to beat people is called hustling.
For all the people taking up for Martin saying something about getting an easy layup. Realize we have to get the rebound first. We have been giving up offensive rebounds all year. We need all the players we can trying to get a defensive rebound.
KM is not the biggest cherry picker you've ever seen prove: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/85cZB9O_LkE?fs=1&hl=zh_TW"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/85cZB9O_LkE?fs=1&hl=zh_TW" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
I don't know about cherry picking but Kevin Martin continues to strike me as a player who's just good enough to get you the three point loss. He seems to me the type of player who's better being a 15 point per game sixth man than a 23 point per game starter. That way he doesn't have to play defense, he just comes into the game with more defensive oriented role players and shoots the hell out of the ball and then you take him out and run your starters. His defensive performance and defensive presence on the court is just a huge negative. It screws up the entire defense to have one player who's that poor defensively. Plus those stupid flops that he gets bailed out on so often on his drives aren't going to get called as much at the end of tight games. They should start Chase, gets his more complete all around game on the floor longer, and let KMart do whatever he wants off the bench.
As much as we like to cheer for Bud, his defense is worst then Martin's imo. The guy you want starting is Lee. People forget that he was the starting 2 guard for a team that went to the finals 2 years ago. But the Rockets can't bench Martin now, otherwise his stock will drop completely.
yep, if we are in a 3-1 fastbreak, we should wait for all the players in the opposite team, because its so bad, if we just score easy.
