    Not true, not true, nonsense

The difference is Adelman took advantage of the DRAFT. He drafted late round players (Brooks, Landry, CBud etc..) and let them GROW in his system. JVG NEVER took the draft seriously. He CHOSE to bring in Clarence Weathspoon, Charles Oakley, Charlie Ward, Mark Brunson, Vin Baker etc..

    Your comment is almost laughable...

Watching Rockets fail to execute in fourth quarter time after time makes me want JVG to come back. When it gets late in game you want players that will play hard nosed basketball, rebound, box out, look for a good shot. Does this sound like players we now have. Martin, Brooks, Budinger, Ish, Scola. Taylor, Yao, etc. I dont think so. Not only do we need new coach we need different players. Like they say you cant teach an old dog new tricks.

    Good god no!!! No JVG!!!

Trying to give JVG a free pass, because "his teams didn't have any talent" is BS. He personally approved and picked his players, and had plenty of time to get the players here he needed. All those former Knicks players? Shane? Chuck? Rafer? Weren't those guys all his type of players? Defense oriented players? Limited offensively, but capable of playing solid defense. Tracy? wasn't that JVG's personal pick? Didn't he ship out "The Franchise" and brought in T-Mac?

Didn't he prefer veterans and shied away from youngsters? Didn't like to slow the game to a crawl resulting in games where no one would score over 80pts. Ugly, Ugly basketball.

Didn't he run the same play over and over like beating a dead horse? Everyone knew what was coming, I knew it, you knew it, the fans knew it and opposing teams knew it. It was like beating square pegs in round hole. Ugly, Ugly basketball.

How about JVG's success? Any Rocket 1st round playoff victories? Don't give me that crap about talent, he assembled his team. He had a prime Tracy and Yao. He had all his defensive minded players, his vets, his all stars, his great coaching staff. He even brought in the great Pat Ewing.

According to some of these threads around here, this current Rockets team is the one that suxs, No talent, No all-stars, No toughness.

But you know what? I'm not making excuses for R.A. He needs to right the ship and I'm fully confident he will. I'm also fully confident that this team will again surpass JVG in either win total or playoff success.

Do I agree with everything R.A. does? No? But I'm fully confident that R.A. > JVG. In a perfect world we could combine the two and have one perfect coach. Until then I'll take Rick.

Bring JVG back? No way! Only if you like taking two steps back.

Since RA's team never play defense, I don't think he is going to win it all any time, though he may get some good results.

Really? So he personally picked VSPAN? Many times he said he did not get involved with the draft. Which players did he give up to get the guys he wanted?
Yes he did bring in TMAC, and he got some awesome production from him. He turned MeMac into a creator for others, and taught him to play high level defense.

All of the Knicks players? They came in, we gave up nothing, and most were on 10 day contracts.

Chuck came here for nothing. Which players did he demand and what did we give up to get them? We had no assets.

There have been countless posts disproving this statement. We were good defensively before Yao went out last year. His Sacramento teams were near the top of the league defensively, as were his Portland teams.

Look up your facts before making these claims.

Yeah I was about to say, "JVG teams never embarrassed?" You must've missed that game 7 loss to the Mavs. Also just to add to the list remember that game against the Jazz when only 4 Rockets could score.

JVG teams executing offensively better than RA teams? I will point again to the Jazz game where only four Rockets could score.

Yup. When I said "multiple pathetic scoring records set against the Jazz in the playoffs", I was thinking of that and also the games where Rockets were only managing 60 something points for the game.

That was just a flat out embarrassing series for Gundy.

You know when I think back to the JVG era one thing and one thing comes to mind: Playoff series vs the Jazz.

As I think about how terrific JVG and TT defensive thinking was, I can't help but ask this one burning question: How come they never put Battier on Deron Williams?

It took all of two seconds for Adelman to make this move last year and it basically changed the whole dynamic of the matchup between the two teams.

I think TT was the driving force behind those team's success. JVG was just bad at developing youth, and running anything other than isolation plays in the half court.

I do not want him back.

Link above to a thread I started. Folks didnt agree with me at the time when I presented this idea. We saw that it works though.

During the Gundy series, what we saw instead was Battier running around like a headless chicken and Matt Harpring and others over-powering him.

Well, if you want JVG back, I would also request to bring back your favorite Juwan Howard ...

I dont think you have been paying attention. I wanted them both gone. Once Gundy was gone I knew Juwan's days as a Rocket were numbered.

Known and feared around the league? He never even got us out of the first round! JVG is a good coach but people here are overrating him to extreme levels and forgetting how underachieving his Rockets teams were.
