Agreed. They must go 'all in' on drafting a franchise player. And they must look on the market to sign a FA. If they can't turn this thing around by the deadline, Morey better have a few magic tricks up his sleeve. If they can't do it by the deadline, they won't do it next season either keeping Yao, Shane and Jared on the squad ain't gonna cut it. Martin/Yao/Brooks can't lead a team never will.

Unless you take a chance on Roy, but what is the point of that when we have Martin at the same position? And Houston was after Roy in that draft, but selected Gay for Memphis. The latest rumor is Roy will never be what he once was unless a miracle happens with his knee. And Portland discussed about trading him.

trade for superstars and superstars only, and if we cannot then just let them run out and sign melo in free agency straight up the same way nyc is hoping it all goes down. That or trade for picks in this upcoming draft and then draft the hell outta the best players available and build a new team from it.

I think I agree this team wouldn't get past the first round, even if they somehow turned it around.

If I could get something that improves us (either draft picks or some good young players and an expiring to make it work) for Yao, i'd do it.

    Jeffries shoud be dealt.

Match Brooks' qualifying offer (if reasonable), Sign Battier to the LLE, Chuck to the vet minimum. Get a high lottery pick for either a C or a SF or PG if they let Brooks walk and have about 15 mil on the table for a superstar..who knows what the new CBA will be that could be more than the new max

Yao won't be shipped out even if he becomes a 15-minute reserve center. In short, he is the reigning cash cow for the Rockets -- he brings in millions on NBA/Rockets gear from the Chinese economy. If he does not climb back to his former level, I look for him to take a cut down to about $8M - $10M just because of his sense of honor. Even so, he easily still pays for himself.

Battier, Jeffries and Hayes at 125% + $100,000 give us a $17M player, although I don't know what center, point guard or small forward that would be.

Let them expire and rebuild, unless you can get cheap YOUNG talent.

Time to go to the war room and find a superstar in the draft...

At $10Mil he pays Les Alexander more so than us as the fans.

I so agree. I've been invested in this franchise for a long time and if we keep him around past this year I'll lose all faith that this franchise really wants to win. I want a sports team to root for, not a business entity. After Yao went down during the 22 game win streak and then again in the playoffs, I've been off the Yao train. I admire the skills and work ethic but he has no place in this league. To think we drafted him over Amare Stoudamire.

The good years that Yao has given us I would gladly take over having Amare, it's just moving forward that's been unfortunate for Yao, and the team. Our team and even our city would be much different if we had never drafted Yao. And who knows how Amare would've developed if he had never had Nash.

I can't argue that either, but using the expirings could give us some extra draft choices to bundle and move up for a better quality draftee(s).

You know who we should trade with? The GRIZZLIES.
Having just signed Rudy and Conley to some heavy contracts, there's no way they can keep GASOL RANDOLPH AND MAYO in the long term. Let's just ship Jefferies and maybe a pick for one of those and call it a day.

I would have said that two years ago myself. Not now. Time to move on though-that is certain.

    Sign me up for Gasol!

I think Randolph is playing for a contract, and I'm not sure if Mayo is better than Kevin Martin. Mayo is a pretty undersized shooting guard. I think he's listed at 6'4 or 6'5 which I hear is pretty generous. I think he'd be an upgrade to Lee though.

    Team will rebuild!

As I remember the Rockets drafted Sampson, R McCray, Olajuwon, Cassel, Mobley, Horry, etc to bulid championship teams...then added the Mad Max, Mario Elie, etc....The Bulls drafted Jordan...San Antonio drafted Duncan...The Lakers Got Kobe young and built around him. The Rockets have enough to move up in the draft...why the hell not...the quick fix is not working! The problem is the have been more miss than hit on first round draft picks...

If you trade away a legend like Olajuwon to improve your team...the you damn well can trade away Yao who is injury prone and has not carried us to one championship let alone two to make us better!
