So now we're blaming it on the schedule? LAME excuse. Frankly this team is what I thought we'd be last year. Even though it's early, I'm for blowing it up come the deadline and trade whatever we have to in order to get Carmelo. No one on this team is untouchable.....not Scola, not Yao, not Martin. No one.
The problem I think were the ridiculously high expectations of the team. Like 2 in the west? 1 in the division where it's extremely competitive. Despite the injuries this team is what it is: mediocre. Defense is a major problem.
If Morey has to blow it up already, what does that say about him as a GM? I mean, he just got here, this is his team....and to have to blow it up already.....that, IMO, would not bode well. DD
which is funny because last year we were predicted to be the bottom dwellers and we held water all season. I remember being annoyed at all the naysayers who said we would be "turrible" last year and the same ones predicted us as the deepest team in the West this year. it took about a week into the season for me to almost lose interest entirely... I don't know the last time I felt this way over a Rockets team so early in the season.
this guy has to be trolling he also posted this a couple days ago http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=5714371#post5714371
Wake up its the reality and it hurts. Stop giving and delusioning yourself Reason yada yada and accept what your team for who they are whichs sucking badly
What a joke of a thread...and some 5-starred it? Laughable. Good teams beat good teams. The Houston Rockets are not a good team.
DaDakota remember your prediction #2 in the west,56 wins, a strong team come playoff time. I said I'll get back with you. Now is that time.
We are not a good team right now. That is a reality. What is also a reality is that we still have not given Yao a chance to get back in the flow of things and build chemistry with the team. Wth his minute limits and injury that has been very difficult if not impossible for him to do. Just as they talk about allowing him to play more minutes... he gets hurt. Once he comes back I hope they still agree to increase his playing time very soon. AB is out for a month. That has a big impact to the rotation. Budinger is out and not shooting his normal average. Lowry is still getting into game shape. I see a lot of people saying this team "sucks" and is horrible because of our current record, but you have to take into account the injuries and things the team is dealing with right now. You cant look at our record and not say something about that. Deep team or not, those things have a big impact. I say all of that to say I will hold off judging this team until all players are back in the rotation and healthy. Until then, we are not seeing the Rockets team we all talked about this summer. That's my two cents.
How can you say what this team is when you have yet to see the full team playing over an extended period of time? Can you truly say you have enough of a sample size to make that determination? Yes, I know we are all disappointed in the current record but is this the team we all talked about this summer being that division winner? NO it is not. I'm not making excuses i'm just trying to state the facts. 1. We had a limited Yao to work with. That is a struggle to build chemistry. When they talk about increasing his minutes he gets hurt. 2. So now, no Yao. 3. No Brooks for a month. 4. Out of 'game shape' Lowry, recently back from injury and hardly any pre-season. So we hae to play a undrafted rookie high minutes. 5. Issues on team defense. Takes time to build chemistry (guys in and out of the lineup) and understand rotations. Not saying we will eventually be a top 5 D, but having a regular rotation (including Yao) will help with D. These are things that other teams are not dealing with right now and they do matter and have to be considered when trying to judge the team.
^^ I think it's obvious, isn't it? At THIS point in time, if Yao Ming and Aaron Brooks are your best players, you've got problems. There's no reason to believe Yao will EVER be healthy enough to be considered a star and Brooks simply ISN'T a star.
It's really sad that there are not many posters who are as sensible as you are. Great post amidst the gloom and doom at CF. Repped.
The Rockets team many of you talked about being a contender included a healthy Yao. That was and is fool's gold. That's a huge part of the point from those of us in the offseason who were mystified at all the, "we're going to be a championship contender!" posts. You're talking about injuries being the problem -- NO KIDDING!!! Welcome to the Houston Rockets! Injuries a perennial problem for the centerpiece of the franchise. There's nothing new or unexpected about that. The team is a collection of role players. The only player on this squad that's capable of playing at a superstar level (meaning first team or second team All NBA) is Yao Ming. The overwhelming history of the NBA tells us that without a player of that caliber, we're not contenders....that you instantly get the Pistons in your head when I read that only proves the point further...the exception that proves the rule. But Yao has missed about as many games as he's played over the past 5 seasons...he's coming back from a surgery...and he's only getting older. Doctors are saying he needs limited minutes...limited time. And yet, this is the piece many of you are telling me is the piece that carries us to a ring. No one at his size has logged the kind of minutes he's logged in the history of the NBA. No one's even close. History shows us that guys at that size don't have long careers playing lots of games each season. That was the point. Counting on this team to just "add in Yao" and "increase his minutes quickly" were crazy. Not going to happen, because he physically isn't capable of that...and we've heard that same song a bunch of times now with him.
I was one of those people and we played above our heads the first 2 months of the season when we went 20-13. After that we went 22-27. Looking back, the Ariza signing combined with the losses of Yao and McGrady only served to postpone the inevitable. We were much more competitive last year than I ever thought we would be. I think that early success combined with 42 wins blinded alot of fans into thinking we are deep. Last years team was much deeper than this one in my opinion. Unfortunately I now think are in store for an ugly 2010-11.
