    As I get comfortably ensconced in middle age, I'm making peace with the fact that I will never:

    Discover the ruins of an ancient city;

    Be knighted by the Queen and be able to put those really cool initials behind my name;

    Have people pay to see me perform Shakespeare;

    Get a Ph.D.;

    Dunk again;

    Write a novel;

    Play tackle football again;

    Own a Porsche 911;

    Shoot below 80 on something other than a putt-putt course;

    Be an Alaskan bush pilot.

    But I do get to love on my kids every day.

    How about you folks?

    Write the novel. It doesn't cost very much in dollars... just "blood, sweat and tears..". It's never too late. I love every day on my kids as well. I just wish we had had them when we were a bit younger. The energy doesn't channel as easily as it used to.

    Obviously coming from a different perspective, but I'm 29 and have more of a list of things I will do:

    - become a scratch golfer
    - shoot under 70 from the tips
    - pay off a house I love by the time I am 40
    - learn to speak spanish
    - convince my wife that she loves golf =)
    - do something productive and enjoy every day of my life

    I agree about the novel however...if you love reading and books, you should give it a go.

    rimrocket, there's a guy that's 76 in the U's Anthro dept that's a PhD student.

    Never surrender. I make about 20 cents an hour in my attempts to go back to school. If you want it bad enough, there's always peanut butter and jelly.

    At least at one time you could dunk.

    At 5'7", I knew growing up that I would never be able to dunk.... On the other hand, little did I know that one day I would be able to crank down my 10 year old's adjustable basket and tomahawk jam, reverse jam, and flip it off the backboard and jam (well, on a good day anyway;) )

    I never will .....

    bench press twice my weight

    run a sub 3:00 marathon

    become a cowboy.

    I still want to ....

    learn to speak Spanish

    learn to play a musical instrument

    design my own home.

    I did shoot 41 for 9 holes this summer. It was a kind and gentle course.:cool:

    ....I WILL dunk again. I will be dunking again before April 12, 2003.

    ....I've started on the novel. It may take awhile, but the outline and first chapter are done.

    ....beyond those two, I'll take the rest as it comes.

    On your head it is, then. But do I get a running start, or do I have to dribble?

    I have that link somewhere, let me look for it and email you back.
