They should be paying us billions for the privilege of the US giving them the cover and support they need to flaunt international law and world opinion to our detriment for 90 days.

    I agree it is ridiculous.

Israel has the right to buy the extra F-35s, but the idea that we should give them away for a 90 day freeze is both short sighted and fiscally irresponsible.

Unless Israel intends to use these F-35s to knock down the Iranian reactors, there is no reasonable justification for the deal to take place.

yes, pretty much - Israel is a cancer that's slowly killing any chance of peace in the middle east. You got one thing wrong though, I'm not a leftist.

Azadre, I will agree that it sounds curious - a $ 3 bn value in exchange for something so relatively insignificant as that. But we do not know if these reports are actually correct and what other concessions would have to be made in exchange. See the article below.

I guess some people's previous bias (not referring to you, Azadre, but some other posters who commented on this thread) makes it easy for them to see this as confirmation of their "Israel = the devil" thinking and jump on this.

    ----------
The United States on Monday refused to confirm a key component of the security guarantees it reportedly offered Israel in exchange for a 90-day freeze on new settlement construction in the West Bank.

Supporters of the freeze have cited the US offer to give Israel 20 F-35 joint strike fighter jets worth $3 billion as a critical reason to support the deal; the initial details of which were hammered out last Thursday between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

But when quizzed about the weapons offer, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said, “We are committed to maintaining Israel’s qualitative edge in the region – but beyond that, I’m not going to comment."

"I would just always caution that any time you have reports about specific things, some details may be right, some details may be wrong,” Crowley said.

What is the combined value of the money we give annually to both Israel and Pakistan?

I wish we would cut Israel off and let them work out their own problems.

because i have an opinion. seriously the, "OH MY GOD YOU'RE NOT GIVING ME EVERYTHING I WANT YOU CLEARLY HATE US" attitude has got to stop. israelis/jews that are megadefensive are a huge rolleyes to me. Woop-de-doo, you guys got massacred a bit 60 years ago. That clearly gives you the right to whine about every single ****ing thing that doesn't go your way.

Sorry, but I don't buy it. I'm chinese, we suffered terrible things at the hands of the Japanese occupation. Deal with it.

They have the right to prevent suicide bombings and rocket fire. Megadefensive, as in demanding fighter jets, is one thing (and wrong). Providing security to its citizens is another. The settlement expansion is not providing security to anybody and only prevokes war.

I don't know which jews you have been in contact with during your lifetime, but we are hard workers... not complainers.

Do you realize how offensive your statements are?

I agree with that. I don't understand the settlement expansion.

The jews I have met in my lifetime were hard workers and very well-educated and intelligent, and generally had a great sense of humor.

I've known a few jews (can't say I've known more than a handful). They didn't seem to be that much more hardworking than average. In fact, most of the ones I know don't make a big deal of it, for which I'm grateful. Once you hit the internet though, it's a different animal entirely. Everything is suddenly offensive to you guys. You're not the only people who deal with racism, and it really isn't all that bad. Deal. With. It.

actually I have to amend that. They do seem more hardworking than average, just not harder than average of my group of friends. Sorry, perspective at work.

There is another group of people that seems to be much more easily offended (and violent in their reactions to a perceived offense). Cartoons?
