So today at work a kid that I have classes with comes into the restaurant I work in. His name, Houston Stockton. I make small talk about class, and then moments later his father comes in, a man named John Stockton. We put them on a wait and eventually had to give them service, unfortunately. As I am taking them to the table, I blurt out, "I gotta tell you guys, I'm a big Rockets fan, and you really crushed my childhood with that game 6 shot against us. A nine year old should not go to bed feeling depressed, but that one left me stinging for like a week!" He gave a tiny grimace of a smile, but did not say a word, being the Jazzhole that he is. His wife, then says, "Oh, that was one of our absolute favorites!" Not that incredible of a story by any means, but me being the person that I am I had to get my word in. I think every one of my friends would have known that was going to say something to that extent. Gotta talk about my Rockets at every possible moment, not enough Montanans appreciate The Dream.
Immature cause I'm so young, or because I had the immaturity to comment on that when they were having a family dinner? hahaha, I told my manager that John Stockton ate with us, and asked if he knew who he was. He's like, "Yeah man he has some rings, doesn't he?" I laughed and said, "Nope no rings for him." He knew who I meant in the end, but turns out at first he had him confused with Steve Kerr.
One of the few occasions where "pics of gtfo" is not needed. Did you find out if he's a good tipper at least?
honestly after she said that you should of said "its cool its not like he won a championship that year...or any year"
Someone posted about this Houston Stockton person here before. Was that you? You're really posting another thread about this guy?
Now THAT would have been awesome, in a cold-hearted, douchey sort of way. You would have been a ClutchFans legend for that.
I never got the Stockton hate here. Dude was arguably the greatest point guard ever, and a lot of us got to watch him in his prime (and just after) in those epic duels with Houston. I get that he played borderline dirty (moving picks/cheap hooks), but no worse than Maxwell, and he was no worse a flopper than Scola/Battier, and those guys get endless love around here. He never seemed to try to end careers like K. Malone, who regularly picked on those smaller/weaker: Maybe it's just a question of size (and thus proportion), and not intent with me, or maybe just that his overall, unparalleled basketball excellence eclipsed the occasional questionable play. I was glad to be able to witness his career.
