We have enough role players, no reason to take on a 32 year old who is going to be paid 8-12 mil over the next 3 years, limiting our flexibility and preventing us from making important signings, especially if Yao decides to take a massive paycut or leave the Rockets.

Role players don't win you championships, no matter how good they are.

The majority of you guys are star-struck. This team is just one or two players away from being in contention. Not necessarily a star.

I wouldn't call this a bargain, but I certainly don't oppose the idea. SJ is sometimes crazy, but he's a very good player, makes great impact on both ends of the court. We have too many nice guys on the team, as many posters pointed out, the swagger he brings with him will do good for our team. Yes, there might be chemistry problem, if we keep losing. But with or without Jackson, if we lose, we will have chemistry problems, even from bunch of nice guys.

I always wanted a Oakley kind of guy on the team - who can defend, rebound, knock down a mid-range open jumper, and who is not afraid to fight and intimidates the opposing team. But nowadays, that kind of player just becomes a rarity. Even the SGs or PGs cannot make mid-range jumpers at a consistent level, not to mention Forwards.

SJ likes to handle the ball, giving us the option to sometimes play KMart and AB off the ball.

Of course, it depends on the cost. Salary isn't too much of an issue. 8 million is just nothing in today's league, if it brings size, strength, skills, and toughness. Sure, people want to get a steal of quality for 2-3 million, but the market is always right. It really depends on what we need to give up.

    I'm ambivalent about this.
On one hand, Jackson is still very talented, and his passion can be infectious (in a good way).

On the other hand, I'm reminded of a quote, I think from JVG, "no knuckleheads." I remember smiling in agreement when I heard that.

As I consider this further, I'm wondering if Jack Sikma might be able to mentor Jackson. ( I'm not sure coach Adelman has that particular skill set). Sikma had a similar playing style and attitude, and he had to learn to contain his emotions too. He has the physical size and the credibility to look Jackson in the eye and speak straight to him. While he also could communicate empathy with Jackson and provide the stroking that Jackson's somewhat narcissistic ego requires.

Hmm, maybe I've just talked myself into going for it.

If Brooks goes, our playoff hopes will dwindle. The Rockets need as many big game performers as all the other powerhouses. Theres no way Rocket fans celebrate getting out the 2nd round and damn near upsetting the champs without Aaron Brooks. You wanna see him go? For who?

I have a question for those saying lets do it. Does he make us a contender?

If you think so, then nevermind the rest of this post.

If you think no...then are you guys just content with being good enough to be respected but bad enough to never be a legit threat?

First of all, what do they want for him? Will we give up assets? Assets that could be used to get a better player or possibly move up in the draft?

I don't think it's worth it. I don't think he makes this team a contender, it makes the team better and ensures a playoff spot basically....but that's just not good enough anymore.

I hear what you are saying, but imo, despite the 2-6 record, this team will make the playoffs as is. To answer your question about contention, look at all the games we have played so far. The only game that we were somewhat blown out was against the Nuggets. We were a few points off in the rest of the games. Now suppose we had Jackson on the team for those games. With his defense and scoring, we would be 8-0. He will add exactly what we need at the 3 and would make our starters complete. I like Battiers play, but he is not going to give you 15-20 pts a night, guarateed.

Battier and jT alone wouldn't bring him in. Think about it, not every team wants to say OMG I need battier's intangibles here let ne give you one our plays we hope may appease you Houston. So what'd ya say Durant for Battier? It's not a terrible idea but it's certainly more realistic.

With a full compliment of players, YES.

    Brooks
    Martin
    Jackson
    Scola
    Yao

Are you serious? That's damn good starting line up. Let's Yao goes down

    Brooks
    Martin
    Jackson
    Scola
    Miller

Still a very good line up. If Miller can resemble anything how he played against the Pacers, why not? We're not goin to get Melo, Paul or any of the illuminati puppets who are quick to sell they're soul for more $$$ (yea, i went there). We're gonna have to win by committee. I think Jackson could bring some much needed toughness we currently lack

Captain Jack is a circus show, not a basketball player. You think he'd fit in anywhere with his multiple talents, but he only fit in with Golden State's wild offense when Baron Davis was running the show. Even Golden State grew sick of him. No thanks.

Because he's not that good, and a role-player on a good team.

Could it also be attitude and locker room problems?

Child, please. Captain's an all-out warrior. He gets buckets, plays aggressive D, and doesn't take **** from anyone.

"Not that good"... you got jokes, brother. Keep on keepin' on.

Captain Jack is my favorite player outside of the Rockets.

However, I don't think he'd help us that much in Rick's offense.

ESPN suggest Caron Butler may be available. I doubt Cuban would trade with us, but it's worth a look.
