My friend has a HP DV 4 (1220us series) laptop which suddenly crashed and got the BSOD. So I reformatted it and installed Windows XP on it. But then a few days later, the system crashed again. So this time we decided to switch out the internal Hard Drive with a new Seagate hard drive. (SATA 250GB) Now when I try to install the Windows 7 OS on the hard drive it says there is no Hard Drive recognized. The Seagate HD came with no boot disk or any software, and I'm not sure why the HD is not being recognized. Like it gets to installation prompt, but then says there is no HD. Another thing I noticed is the computer gets excessively hot, almost to the point of it burning your skin. When I took the original HD out, it was too hot for me to hold for a few seconds. Anyone know why the HD is not being recognized or this overheating problem is occuring? Thanks.
Try updating the BIOS. Also, it could be that the HP doesnt support a hardrive of that size (if it is an older model) Also, very likely that the MB doesnt support that HD.
