I only used mine when I traveled, for listening to music and watching movies...my son still plays his on occasion...this summer, my son took his and my power cord and my stupid ex won't give it back...it's been in my drawer ever since...
The only thing I know about PSP is that the two God of War games made for it (Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta) are supposed to be awesome. Honestly, if I had the disposable income, I'd buy a PSP for those two games alone.
I love the Valkyria Chronicles and Persona series. Definitely should take a look at those games if you love strategy/rpgs.
I play it all the time. I bought one in Amsterdam when my flight was several hours delayed. Makes flights a lot less boring. I only play FIFA (in the Manager version: My Bayern team has Messi, Maicon, Iniesta...and I still made money). Advantage over PS3 is that you can watch TV and play at the same time.
I must say, the Disgaea series are HUGE time wasters on long flights. My last flight to Frankfurt was very, very quick simply because I played Disgaea the whole time. Strategy RPG.
I only use my PSP when I'm traveling these days. Rarely do I play PSP games on it now. Mainly use it to watch video. I'll convert shows/movies/Rox games/ect to .mp4 and load em on my 8 gig card for long flights. Also play a lot of classic console roms with homebrew apps. I can't beileve that a 2 gig memory card cost as much as the PSP ($250.00) when I got it back in '05. Wow.
Where have you been shopping? A 16GB Sony stick that works in the PSP is like, $60. http://bit.ly/bDfBwk
he said 5 years ago. i just ordered the Peace Walker bundle for my overseas trip. supposed to come in today. it better, my flight is tomorrow!
I have one that I bust out a few times a year. Honestly, I'm so used to my iPhone for gaming, that it seems archaic without touchscreen or accelerometer.
Imagine if they combined that touch screen with a D-pad.....oh man....so much better. Got the first one charged up, my youngest is playing Madden 07 in my office right now...lol...the game was in there...that was the last time I played it.... The other one has the original op system...I recall something about being good for homebrew, so I never updated it.....is that still the case? DD
Have an old PSP lying around? There's some fun stuff you can do with it: http://lifehacker.com/tag/psp/
I was just about to make a thread asking for opinions on it. Been thinking about getting one since my job requires a bit of travel.
Wow...references to Disgaea, Persona, Ys, and Valkyria Chronicles. PSP does have some great RPGs. I don't particularly care for handheld gaming, but hard to ignore some of the PSP games.
Aren't all of them pretty much JRPGs? I've never been able to get into those. Even the Final Fantasy series.
JRPGs or related "genres" I suppose. Some not all that similar to Final Fantasy, though not really like Western RPGs either. A decent Wizardry clone (or clones?) is available, though it is also pretty Japanesy...yeah, that's not a real word, but I think you know what I mean. Anime characters and stuff. Don't know enough about what you don't like about JRPGs in order to say if the PSP's games are good/bad. Of course, PSP has more than just JRPGs (as mentioned), but that's primarily what I was looking for (outside of a few other genres). JRPGs suck for the most part on PS3/360 (oh don't remind me about FFXIII), so I tried to play a few decent ones on PSP.
I like western RPGs that are more in the Dungeons & Dragons / Tolkien-type universe like Oblivion or Dragon Age Origins (which I've never actually played due to my self-imposed gaming hiatus that will hopefully be coming to an end very, very soon). JRPGs are "Japanesy," as you said. The style, the feel, the pretty-boy anime characters....just not my thing.
