We have leads going into 4th quarters, the games come down to the wire, if its a statistical approach then ya, we probably don't look half bad. The schedule has been rough.
well, maybe that will keep you warm at night if we miss homecourt advantage or a playoff spot by a game or two. personally, i'd rather get the W, even if it's ugly.
This is what I was referring to before about humans being emotional. We're talking about assessing how good teams really are, and you are getting distracted by fears that we might miss the playoffs several months from now. Let me put this in perspective for you: we are 2 games out of the playoff picture with 76 games remaining. Teams that are currently in front of us will also hit cold streaks during the season as injuries and facing tough schedules occur.
Quite a bit different when talking football vs. basketball, considering the difference in number of possessions and total points scored.
Guy is an idiot. How can you put the Heat at 1? And LAL at 3? I know they have had the easiest schedule but still...And Denver... they suck
Haahaa i'm not going to lose sleep over it if we are ranked 9 or 21 who cares. They need to just win ball games and bring their A game each and every night.
Over the years I have realized that your post count on CCfans does not correlate to your basketball IQ. In fact, some would argue that the higher your post count seems the less you know.
But 1-5 is only 6 games into the season. 76 more games left. Your argument would hold better if it was April.
What are you suggesting 1-5 is a winning record on where we should be ranked? This is in regards to advanced statistics, where I simply view our record as an indicator on how good we are. If we were that good, we would of won, its so simple.
That's the problem. Your thinking is too simple. Accurately assessing the quality of a team is much more complex than looking at its win-loss record after six games.
Except 4 of our 5 losses came to teams that are ranked higher than us and they were all close losses, and also the other loss (to GSW) was on the second night of a back-to-back when Monta Ellis was playing out of his mind. I hate to make excuses for the Rockets. Winning is important. But we're trying to be objective about really assessing who the good and bad teams are, just looking at wins and losses at this stage is too simplistic.
Let me also say that the Rockets shouldn't be considered a top 10 and probably not even a top 15 team at this stage. If I was ranking them subjectively, I'd slot them somewhere between 15-20. Point differential can tell you some things that pure wins and losses don't, but in the end you have to be able to close out games as well. Maybe a hybrid power ranking that mixes win% and point-differential and strength of schedule would be best.
I was thinking the same thing, but I figured that win-loss record was factored into the equation somewhere. Looking at the explanation you posted that might not be true, though. I wonder if adding in some bonus for actually winning a close game would make his rankings better. In other words, losing by two twice would be worth less than losing by six and winning by two, even though the point differentials are the same.
