Adelman did publicly complain about the trip to China and said how this preseason was especially important because of all the questions about the rotation. I guess we know why now.
you guys that dont like my realistic posts are just living in a negative world. i search for the positives. great effort last night will carry over and will lead to a big win over hapless minnesota. rick is the perfect fit here for our owner and gm. he rolls with whoever is healthy and develops all the young players. offensively its so fun to watch them run the "adelman way". great teacher, motivator but most importantly, just a great man that never gets down and keeps plugging away. if you guys dont want me to be positive, then dont read it. i will be here for a long time too so get used to my positivity especially when it comes to our great coach
the whole concept (or total lack of concept) behind this "team" is to blame...not rick. that doesn't mean i think rick is doing a great job or a bad job. his hands are tied, ultimately. the personnel we have is a collection of players that seem to all be picked as if you had no idea who else was already on the roster when we picked them. we don't make acquisitions to address weaknesses...we make acquisitions (and trade players off) that exacerbate our weaknesses. as if each move were made in a bubble. his numbers look good in a formula, so we'll take him. we're a collection of "good contracts" waiting to be shipped somewhere...centered around a franchise player who can't ever stay healthy and whose identity as a franchise player was weak to begin with. this isn't how you build a team.
I like him too dennis, I just wish he was a little more on the refs during crucial points of the game....that was one thing I liked about JVG. Good post overall, the team will find itself....as long as the injuries stop NOW !! DD
I don't think most of the players we have are "waiting to be shipped" somewhere. More is pretty focused on not having any bad contracts, and that's a good thing, but that's not the same thing. I think the problem has come in focusing so much on advanced stats like efficiency. Lots of our guys very efficient, but do they fit together?
i don't care how efficient brooks and martin are....together, they form an extremely weak defensive unit. which you might be able to get away with on a team with a real defensive presence down low....but we don't have that, either. basketball is played on basketball courts...not on spreadsheets or tucked away in formulas. whose concept is this? someone has to consider how these pieces fit together...what glaring weaknesses stare you in the face when you combine part 1 with part 2...so that you can make adaptation with part 3, 4 or 5 to help address that. it does not appear to me that sort of analysis is our strongpoint, right now. great at analyzing contracts and avoiding bad ones...hey, that's good. i'm good with that. but that alone doesn't build a team.
Yep, that's what I'm saying. I'm not sure who thought a Brooks-Martin backcourt would ever be able to play good D. But I don't want to overstate the case, either. Morey also loves Battier and Lee, both of whom play defense. So it's not like he completely ignores defense.
yeah thank god that rick finally learned how to play other players, bad thing is that he started switching rotations around when players got injured.
Okay, during your anti-Morey rants, have you thought about what alternatives there were there? Would you have kept T-Mac? Who do you suggest Morey should have gotten instead of Kevin Martin, plus the additional assets? Who is to say that Morey was not aware of the defensive weaknesses of a Brooks/Martin backcourt, but there were simply no other options? What you do then is to get the most valuable player available at the time and address everything else later. Would you have had a better plan?
I like coaches that don't whine like Adelman. There are times where it is necessary, but we were hardly a victim of bad officiating last night. The coach needs to coach the game. You don't want the players feeling like they are victims and the outcome of the game is out of their control. If there is a pattern of bad calls in the game, then yes, maybe it would help to stand up let them know, but for one missed call it is counterproductive.
This was the teams loss. Had Lee hit those free throws, we'd had won. Or had Chuck not missed that easy lay up under the goal we'd won in OT. Rick did a fantastic job tonight. Even Popovich gave him his props after the game
pay me lots of money to think about it...make it my job...and i'll try. i'm not sure trading for kevin martin was a good idea, though. adding an awful backcourt defender to another and calling it a starting rotation doesn't make a lot of sense to me. here's the thing though...i'm not anti-morey. i do think is highly overrated by most here, though.
DR, it is not whining to yell out "3 Seconds" to the refs when Duncan is in the lane for 5..... It is being aware of what is going on...and helping your team. DD
Defense is more of a team strategy and will to do it more than any individual talent. In JVG's last years we were 4rth in D but had a rotation consisting of reefer, Tmac, and Battier. Battier is still Battier. Reefer has a slight edge over brooks. Tmac was just as defenseless as Martin is...maybe more (remember he orders Battier around to guard the better player). Hell if Ray Allen could guard Kobe straight up in one game I'm sure guys like Martin and AB could be average defenders if they put their mind to it.
The man is good, yes. But you're just an apologist, a Rick toady. IMHO that team could have been prepared better before and during games to be in positive situation now, not 1 - 5. Yes, I want him to continue but when he retires I suspect Turner (or Sikma) will be ready to deliver better yet. But no, I will not kiss his Adelbutt.
whatever....."the professor" needs to go. Our team takes on the same demeanor as the leader.....no energy, no emotion. quicker we lose out this season the quicker we can start picking the next head coach for this team
Regardless of who is in the lane or who is coaching or what court the game is on, offensive 3 seconds is one of the least made calls in the NBA. Percentage-wise it is probably the most missed call in any game. If your complaint about Adelman in the Spurs game is that he didn't holler out 3 seconds, then, fortunately, you don't have much to complain about.
True, it is not much of a complaint, though I think he should have done it....saying that out loud is as much to help the refs as it is to force Duncan to hear it and leave the lane too. Situational awareness is key. DD
If they are your posts then they are realistic? I regret to inform that what I read sounded like a sophomoric effort to kiss up. You sometimes make sense, even good sense. Other times, not so much. And sometimes you sound like not just a shill but a silly shill. My first definition of a good coach is 'does he have the attention, and respect, of his team'. RA appears to have that so yes, I believe he is a good coach. Guys like Kuester and Childers and Phillips and maybe Rambis need to go even if they know their way around Xs and Os as well as anyone - because who is listening to them?
