Easy 1) Taking the final shot in regulation with far too much time left in the clock 2) Shooting 4-16 from the field 3) Taking lots of bad shots at the end of the game (eg. getting blocked by McDyess leading to a Richard Jefferson dunk on the other end). You don't have to be a good shooter if you are an all-time great passer and an elite defender, neither of which Ish is. You have to be an incredibly talented player to make up for a complete lack of shooting. He certainly has a role on this league, but it is not as a starting PG
You could say that about any player on a single night. That was way to damn specific for a rookie point guard. That game was ours to lose and Ish Smith led us back. That should be the point taken. And if you dont agree with me. Look at Yao's interview from yesterday and he will tell you the same thing.
Nevermind this statement. Guy I quoted meant when Brooks gets back. I think Brooks will start once he feels comfortable.
You can't now bring other players into the argument, we are talking about Ish's mistakes, what Lee did has nothing to do with it. Point is, Ish Smith made plenty of mistakes as should be expected from a 3rd string rookie PG. Anyone who thinks this guy is a viable option as a starter is either delusional or an idiot.
Actually you don't have to be a good shooter if you can get to the paint easily, have good vision, and are surrounded by great scorers. I never said he was a hall of fame PG, so stop trying to convince me that every starting PG in NBA history has either been a good shooter or legendary passer/defender.
We wouldn't have had a chance anyway as someone pointed out. He's not a scoring pg for sure, but neither was Rondo - the guy couldn't shoot a jumper if his life depended on it. We have so many shooters on this team now - Martin, Brooks, CBud, Lee, Battier, and even Miller. You don't need him to hit jump shots.
I'd move AB, we can probably do a sign and trade deal in the offseason, if i am not mistakened.... But, i'd rather wait before i give the nodds to Ish, most teams dont have him scouted. I believe once they do, his game will be drastically changed. Ish's shot is suspect however his dribble penetration is better than AB's. AB usually pulls up for the shot, I saw Ish hold on to the ball and dribble out. More like an CP3 or a Nash move. Also, Ish does a better job at distribution. Only if we can merge Lowry, Ish and AB into one player...
How can you compare a guy who has barely even played two games to someone who is leading the league in assists right now and is a proven all-star and clutch playoff performer? I loved watching Ish as much as the rest last night, but can't stress enough that it was such a small sample size and that it was against the T-Wolves. Just like a new pitcher dominating when he first gets called to the bigs, his shooting weakness will get scouted and then we'll see his true colors and if he can adjust. It's way to early to make any trades now.
Yes. I am thankful too. We will find out who we need to keep now. Maybe even Ish becomes that guy? Lowry? One of these three are gonna soon become trade bait during the deadline now. I think we are gonna resolve very soon who to include in the midseason trade that might be inevitable now.
Let me rephrase. He is a better passer than Rondo was in his 1st year (averaged 3.8 assists a game in year 1 and 5 assists in year 2). Rondo is also in a system that allows for him to put up insane assist numbers. From the small sample size that I've seen out of Ish, his passing ability is off the charts.
You want him to start after one good game against the T wolves? I think he is good, but not starting good. I vote trade Brooks, start Lowry and have Ish as the backup.
