It's not the 24 mpg that is hurting us, but imo this 6 min per quarter is worthless. He needs to sit the first quarter and then play 8 min per quarter in the last 3. I think this would make the game flow much smoother for our team and we would have Yao in the game in the most important times.

We could run and gun or whatever during the first third of the game and then look to run our half court sets with Yao for the rest of the game under a normal substitution pattern for him.

This seems to make too much sense and I think it would work great.

My thought has been to do 8 minutes each the 1st, 3rd and 4th to give Yao some added rest in the middle.

Play the man, 30 minutes a game, and play him back to backs. Make sure that Yao is OK with taking that risk, and keep him on the court unless he wants to limit his minutes.

That's the only way the Rockets will salvage this season.

at what cost? his career? i'm sure they WANT to increase his minutes, but they want to make sure that foot is taking the constant pressure, so i doubt they're going to increase his minutes before december when they're scheduled to reexamine his situation.

obviously this isn't working, i'm just not so sure morey is going to scrap the 24 minute thing so quick

I would actually only play Yao in the first 3 quarters. He never was a good 4th quarter guy, as the defense collapses on him - a lot of turnovers or bad shots. And on defense the abuse him with the high pick and roll.

But in the first half especially he can be really dangerous.

I'll tell you what's going to happen. Yao's going to stay healthy this year. The Rockets are going to invest more money in him, giving him an extension. He comes back next year and plays normal minutes and injures himself again and we're back to having a player taking up a large chunk of our payroll who's unable to play.

Ideally, he won't get injured again. But if he does, better he re-injure himself this year than next year.

I think we should start the 2nd unit, but play Yao and the first unit more minutes off the bench, to take advantage of the team being in the penalty.

    Starters:
    Dampier/Miller
    Hill
    Budinger
Lee (or Taylor as I would prefer)
    Lowry

At the 4 minute mark or so in the 1st:

    Yao
    Scola
Battier (or Lee as I would prefer)
    Martin
    Brooks

With Yao getting a breather at some point before halftime and replaced by one of the backup C's.

Then repeat for the 2nd half.

Either start him and let him play normal minutes or bring him off the bench and limit his minutes.

(god I hope Hill does good against SAS)

i think 30 mpg is fine. hell, i don't think there should be any limitation on his minutes. i don't think he should play back to backs yet and i do think it's fine to be cautious and give him the extra day of rest. i have always been of the opinion that the wear and tear of the back to backs will be potentially more risky early in the recovery versus playing him a full game early in the recovery. when your muscles aren't fully back to where they should be for NBA level competition and you are tired from the previous night and trying to play all out you can hurt yourself easier when coming back from a major injury.

yao seems to be healthy and he looks pretty damn good out there considering how long he has been out. i really wish they would take a more fluid approach to the situation rather than having the 24 mpg limit. he simply doesn't look like he needs to be limited to 24 mpg. his conditioning looks solid so i wish they would let the man play a full game....but that's not gonna happen.

Don't know why they don't bring him off the bench, so many advantages to doing it. If they think he doesn't fit with the 2nd unit well then change the rotation to make sure it does. I mean they are sacrificing continuity with the 24 mpg thing so why not move people around until he is ready to go full speed.

Does anybody know how many minutes he can practice or even warm up? To make any sense, it has to be limited too right?
Otherwise the whole damn episode is just a big PR scandle...

Forget his minutes we need a refund check on minutes and games play. We are the only team that would accept this type of arrangement. The Lakers, Celtics, Mavericks, would send Yao back to China if he was unable to play full time.

missing the first entirely could put the rockets in the whole early, and they have never been good at making a comeback.
