As good as he's been, I don't think Scola should start. I think either Hayes or Hill should start over him, and he can come in the second unit with Lowry/Bud/Lee. The way those guys run, Scola would thrive with them. I can see him getting so many easy buckets, with the way Lowry pushes the ball.
We have way too many good players for all of them to get the playing time they deserve, we need to make some trades.
We have two pretty good teams on our team, it just feels like the units are miss matched with Yao not quite himself yet. Soooo....bold move that Adelman would never have the balls to make: Starting 5 Lowry Martin Budinger Hill Yao Now this in no way implies that Lowry is better than Brooks or even Hill is better than Scola, but we need more D on the perimeter and there's no way Martin sits, so Lowry starts. Obviously Budinger deserves the starting gig so no explanation needed. Hill starts because we need speed, rebounding and shot blocking if we know Yao is going to get the majority of the touches in the post and Yao isn't up to snuff yet on the other end. Second unit Brooks Lee Shane Scola Miller/Dampier(if and when he signs) That unit has the same scoring, not as much rebounding or D, but the second unit will look to push it without Yao anyway. But keep in mind this would only be until Yao is back to being Yao in 40 games or so. Once he's that guy, the starting unit will need to be guys that play off his domination, so we can go back to the current unit. I'm sure this will cause some backlash, but...thoughts?
Jordan Hill is beginning to look like a steal. I have faith that he will handle his business one way or another tomorrow night.
Hill would/should only start if Yao ain't playing. I do like him over starting Hayes but Adelman has faith in his vets and Hayes can occassionaly help the offense with his passes. This talk of Scola to the bench is ridiculous though. Yes, let's bench our most productive player.
Hey, I totally agree that it sounds insane, but if Yao is going to start, Scola becomes a liability because the two of them aren't exactly playing off of each other. One posts on one side and the other posts on the other and they don't pass it to one another. Neither one of them are playing great defense so I say get someone who doesn't need touches and can block some shots next to Yao as long as he starts.
Jordan Hill started, it was a beautiful thing. now hopefully he can play the END of games too! was he in foul trouble or something? i was hoping that as soon as Duncan came in that rick would put hill in! hill seems to match up very well against duncan but of course rick never wants to play the match-ups!
Probably because it wasn't that awesome. He had a very weak game statistically, and the only period during which the Rockets outs ores the Spurs, Hill didn't play. I don't k ow what some of you guys see? He's not an above average defender or rebounder. He is a below average offensive player. He doesn't play with 200 percent effort at all times, as he has to. I'd love for him to get better, but I don't see it.
I love his presence in the paint. Another 2 blocks in last night's game. Hill is averaging 2 blocks a game, so far.
Either you are a box score fan, or you have no clue of what you are talking about. I was very impressed by Jordan Hill. His defense on Tim was a thing of beauty to watch. His pump fake to get Blair to bite it for and one was awesome. I wish Scola can do much of that as he get blocked so many times. His tenacity in the paint both offensively and defensively is really what we have been missing in this young season so far. I say yes start him over Yao.
The trick with Hill is, the longer he is out on the court, the better he plays. Why he was taken out and not put back in beyond me. Although, Chuck did a great job on Duncan as well, they should still have had some shotblockers out there. The Spurs were getting too many offensive rebounds towards the end of the game. He could have helped in that situation.
^^ what he said, his presence in the paint alters how opposing teams attack the basket, with him in there you see guys going 4 pull-up jumpers instead of getting lay-up after lay-up
It has nothing to do with boxscore watching. U guys see hill have a couple of good plays than get ecstatic. An NBA starter should have at minimum a few good plays. Every quarter. And then play solidly the rest of the game. I like Jordans potential. He is much better defensively than offensively now. Bit he still has rotational problems. He is still confused on pick and rolls. And he still has a long way to go offensively. Thinking Hill should start over Yao ( when healthy) or Scola is moronic. I'm all for him getting more minutes. He should continue to improve. But he'll never be more than an average NBA bigman. Again, the rockets outscored the spurs last night without hill in the game.
Who would have thought that Jordan Hill would score more, rebound more and block more shots than Yao?
