My first new thread after a few months got me zero reply. Not necessarily an attention w****, but it still hurts my feelings Now, let me give it another try. I know the sample size is small, but it's too obvious to neglect. We talked about 4th quarter closer, talked about poor defense. But I think rebounding is a much worse issue right now, well, aside from maybe some serious chemistry issue. We have been killed on boards. Didn't have time to look up all the stats, but you can see it right away. Our starting lineup suck big time in rebounding. Yao in his best days, he was a 9-10 rebounds guy, with his height advantage, I guess he's somewhat average. If we look at the numbers only, let's put him on above average, but he's not 100%, he's average at best. Scola is decent in past years at rebounding, and very good this year. Let's say he's above average or just say he's a good rebounder. Shane with his 4.7 career rebounding, he's best at average. AB's 2 boards a game and Martin's 2.8 is probably dead last duo in the league (I didn't look up). How do you win games, if your starting line up consists of 2 average rebounders, 1 good rebounder, and 2 worst rebounders? We used to have Sura, Cat, SF3, TMac, they were all pretty good rebounders at their positions. When was the last time we had a very bad close to worst rebounder, not to mention 2, in the starting line up? How do you win without rebounding?
You play defense. The other team never shoots scoring 0 points. While u shoot 100%. Quite simple mathematics. Duh
Even Drexler was commenting in the New Orleans game about how the Rockets are one-and-done. They just cant get offensive boards. Hayes is too short, Hill is out of position, Scola is usually the one shooting, and Yao forgets to take off his oven-mitts. Do you know how much easier a stellar rebounder makes close 4th quarter games? It's very rewarding when you can take a second shot now-and-again and get some momentum. This thread is ironically the answer to a different question - how can we step up in the 4th quarter. To quote Clyde again: "ya think?"
No one answers your threads because you do things like not bothering to look up the rebounding numbers when that's what your whole thread is based on. Rebounding hasnt been an issue, except for one game where the other team was too hot to create any defensive rebounds, which makes this a horrible thread and you deserve to get rookie-fied for it.
That's extremely harsh for no reason. Really, did you have a bad day? From one thread you figure out my pattern, that's way too smart. Scola had 16 rebounds in 3 out of those 4 games, that's why the whole number comparison doesn't look as bad as it really was. But on the other hand, our guards rarely got or even went after any of those long rebounds. Martin had 2 games he had 0 rebound, and Aaron wass a consistent 2-3 boards per game. Do you REALLY need to look up the stats to see it for yourself, that our guards duo can't/won't/or don't want to rebound? Now, you sir, can look up the stats and debunk my point and glorify our guards' rebounding ability. I am all ears.
Hopefully We see Hill in the rotation for now on. No Miller unless Yao is not playing in back to back.
Extremely harsh? That's actually a nice response around here. You made a bad post that didnt get any response, so you follow it up because your feelings were hurt with another bad post and and now think you dont deserve a harsh response? And now you want me to do the work for you?? I did the work, so i could make my reply. If you did it too you would see we werent outrebounded except for one game where the deficit was in def boards, which there werent many of to get, so the problem wasnt not rebounding, but not defending well enough. Yes, we dont have great rebounders at the 1 and 2, but what do you expect? For them to get 4+ boards? 1 to 3 boards is about what most guards get, especially smaller guards. It's not great, but you're making them the problem simply because they have the lowest numbers. It's like going directly to battier as an offensive problem simply because his numbers look too low. What about the 100 + pts a game we've been scoring? Same thing with rebounding, we've done it well enough and that's without a center half the game. Yao will start playing more and dampier will get signed and our rebounding will get better, but as of now it's not the cause of the team's struggles and it's not likely to be int he future as you seem to imply. If you bothered to do the research you'd notice a clear connection between who plays and rebounding. I'll give you a hint, it's NOT brooks or martin.
To answer your question, if you have 0 rebounds in a game, you will lose unless the other team does not get any shots off
Geez, you are an uptight dude. You are having a bad day, again? This thread has nothing to do with my first one. It was a frigging joke that my feelings were hurt. Let me set the record clear, MY feelings were not hurt. Hopefully, my bad joke and bad post didn't hurt your fragile feelings. If it did, I apologize. Jesus Christ! I didn't make our 1 and 2 rebounding the reason we lost 4 in a row, not at all. As a matter of fact, my first thread was asking what's wrong about this team. To me, it's more at chemistry level, energy level, disconnection between coach and players, or management whatever. I didn't think it's that our players are bad. This is separate, and just an observation. We can't rebound when we need it, maybe except for Scola. At guards position, that problem is more obvious. Yes, short guys get less rebounds. But 0 rebound for 2 games is just bad, really bad. 2 short guys can't rebound hurting us in the back court. If you disagree, fine. Elaborate your point, if you want to. If you think my thread is trash, fine, ignore or even report. But take my one line joke on myself, to accuse me of this and that, rant on how thread should be made. I can only shake my head. Have a nice weekend!
the fact that you were joking about your feelings doesnt explain the 2 back to back bad threads you made..... in your first one you ask what's wrong when there's 50 threads discussing it already. You wanted the answers to come to you. It also sure doesnt explain making a thread where you didnt even bother to check if the point you were making was true or relevant at the time. Once again, you wanted others to bring you the answers, while you provided simple observations. Or maybe you didnt want any answers and just wanted people to take your observations as facts, which is even worse. 0 rebounds for two games? Neither of the two guys you're talking about has had 2 zero rebounds games. They havent even had one zero rebound game each on the same night, so again, you're wrong because you didnt bother to look up the info, and yet you want us to have a discussion using that info. You should be glad you didnt get more negative responses.
we did not lose because short guys not rebounding or big guys could not dribble. we lost because our tallest guy could not secure his rebound. Yao said it best: it was all on him.
LOL. Your response or not, positive or negative, won't make me glad or upset. Let me be clear, my happiness doesn't resolve around some random guy on the internet, even if you consider yourself the source of all negativity. You were right, i was wrong on one of our guards had 2 zero rebound games. Martin had 0 in game 2, and Aaron had 1 in game 3. That made them not bad rebounders at all. BTW, with all your bravado, you should speak more on your own behalf, instead of hiding behind that empty "us". There was no "us", just you. Others who wanted to say something, they would say. Otherwise, they will just ignore. Keep on nagging how I shouldn't have created the threads in the first place, is really childish, and a waste of bandwidth anyways. This is my last reply to you in this thread. Please feel free to pour on your negativities. I am really scared Again, have a nice weekend.
I know right? I mean he is like an all-star for whatever team he's playing for right now, the name escapes me... Who does he play for again?... The kings?... Oh well.
Absolutely, as Yao said, he couldn't secure that long board, and it went to Paul, then Paul made the 3. Therefore, Rockets lost game 1, 2, 3, and 4. Maybe we shouldn't play Yao then. Since Yao already voluntarily took the blame, everyone else should be happy then. Wait, for some people who are caring, it was not about blame but rather winning. Never mind.
I agree with the OP, and so did Daryl Morey. Our "smalls" need to help out on the defensive boards. Right now, we're 25th in defensive rebounding. Our starting backcourt is probably the worst rebounding duo in the league. Courtney Lee doesn't help out much either. JVG used to emphasize "gang rebounding". We were always one of the very best defensive rebounding teams under him. We need to get back to that.
Scare you? I'm hardly trying to. If very few people are replying, or zero in the case of your other thread, then it's because a lot of them believe it was a poor thread. Despite all my "nagging" and "negativity", I've actually managed to include relevant and true information in my posts. And don't mistake having confidence in my words for bravado. When you take time to check the facts first there's no reason not to feel confident.
