You can not rely on trades, that may or may not come. But what you can do is put your best team on the court every night, and let the players play. If that means hurting the feelings of some good NBA players, so what. A coach and GM are hired to make the tough decisions and to win games....not everyone has to play, this is not rec ball. DD
Some consider our team being the contender as we have many good players, but no true stars. If we are going to slim down our rotation, we are becoming 'worse' while compared to other team's small rotation. Forgive my ignorance, I think the logical way for us to be good on paper is to use big rotation and play high intensity game every single minute. If each player only needs to play under 30 mins, I think they can bring in more energy opposed to the 40 or so playing mins. However, I did not see it in the first four games.
That is a great theory that doesn't work in reality. Players don't get comfortable knowing the rotations and how each other plays when guys are shuffled in and out and the people they play with are constantly changing. Most good teams, use a smaller rotation, 9 tops...... The Rockets are playing too many guys too many minutes and it is not allowing anyone to get comfortable. Shrink the rotation, get a routine and then slowly expand it as necessary. I don't care who is IN the 8-9 people.....just kick some guys to the bench, before the chemistry issues become cancerous. DD
I agree completely! Rotation for Yao games: Starting 5: Brooks Martin Battier Scola Yao Bench 3: Lowry Budinger Hill (can backup either C or PF) The 1/2: Dampier (limited minutes due to Yao's injury) Non-Yao Games: Starting 5: Brooks Martin Battier Scola Hill Bench 3: Lowry Budinger Dampier The 1/2: Miller (if we are struggling offensively or have foul trouble) ------------------------ Hill definitely makes this rotation because he's not a liability on either end. He can also play both the 4 and 5. Hayes is the odd man out along with Jeffries.
When is it time to blow up "the 2nd deepest bench in the league," call it like it is, and trade for a Quasi star like iggy or prince or whomever. Everyone should be on the block...
Please stop.... Making trades is not easy, and it is not the answer.....fix what you can, and if a trade comes up, pounce, but constantly looking for trades is not going to make this team better. Understanding the roles and the players you have WILL make it better, now. We have a better roster this year than last, but we have no chemistry.....shrink down the rotation get some chemistry and build back up. DD
Passion. Last year's squad was passion and grit. This year's is quit. I won't even address the minute distribution for the 5 position.
They are playing hard, they just don't know where to go, whom to defer to, and who is picking up the rotation. This is not a passion issue, it is a lack of understanding their roles issue. There is an old saying that is apt here: Too many cooks spoil the broth. DD
Yea....and when a player is contributing, he takes em out sometimes..especially when its a bench player..lol
I agree with Durvasa. In my view, we should be starting Lowry and bring Brooks off the bench in a 6th man role similar to Jason Terry in Dallas. Brooks and Martin should not be on the court at the same time for more than 15 minutes a game, IMHO. Right now we need defensive identity, which is something that we really haven't had since JVG left.
Hill should actually be matched up with Yao instead of Scola so we can have more athleticism on the court. Yao is just to slow
If you are running an 8 man rotation, then Hill will see time on the court with Yao. He also backs up Scola. You also have times with both Brooks and Lowry on the court at the same time.
I'm not sold on this 8 1/2 man rotation you came up with. I think it's safe to say that our depth is one of the best things about this team. I'm pretty sure most of the blame can be put on Rick Adelman for his terrible choice in his rotation. In my opinion there are a couple of easy fixes. 1. A starting lineup of: - AB - K-Mart - C. Bud - Scola - Yao 2. A second unit of: - Lowry - Lee - Battier - Hill - Miller/Dampier 3. Less minutes for Hayes and Battier is going to be key in us winning some games. I know that second unit doesn't look like it has much offense in there but with a rotation you will have starters mixed in and I think it could work. We just need to stop letting battier play more minutes then bud.
Don't understand the criticism on hill, unless he's supposed to put up numbers like amare stadoumire. He's active, he's blocking shots, grabbing rebounds. Not quite there on the offensive end but he's not chucking up shots and going 1-11 either. What bothers me is when they put chuck hayes in and he turns the ball over trying to drive to the basket.
10-11 man rotations don't work. Bringing it down to 8-9 players will help out with chemistry and creating an identity.
this rockets team has bench players that could be starters in other teams maybe its not how many players we play but if we could assemble 2 teams in one, a mix of youth and experience, one team could be 1-aaron brooks 2-kevin martin 3-chase budinger ( 4-luis scola 5-Hill/Miller second unit could be something like 1-lowry 2-lee 3-battier 4-Hill 5-yao (until we get some chemistry going yao needs to come of the bench) Thats almost like having 2 potential starting line ups playing the whole time
