Holy ****, preseason starts a week from Tuesday!

I just checked the calendar, and MAN! There's only 13 days between today and the day the Rockets start playing again. I can't freakin' wait, can you?

What's the deal with the TV schedule on preseason games? I live in Austin, but I travel to Houston frequently to see family and friends, so I can run on down there next Tuesday and watch it on TV if it's going to be on...

    Here's the preseason scedule...
Oct. 8 Tue. Memphis 7:00 p.m. The Pyramid
Oct. 15 Tue. San Antonio 7:30 p.m. Compaq Center
Oct. 17 Thu. Phoenix 8:00 p.m. America West Arena
Oct. 18 Fri. Portland 7:30 p.m. St. Charles, MO
Oct. 20 Sun. Orlando 7:30 p.m. Compaq Center
Oct. 23 Wed. San Antonio 7:30 p.m. SBC Center
Oct. 24 Thu. Philadelphia 7:30 p.m. Compaq Center

Keeping in mind Yao will be in absence, how do you think we'll fare in these games? I say Memphis, Phoenix, Portland, Orlando, and Philly will all be wins. I also predict the most suprising player to be either Sonny Watson or Kelvin Cato since our expectations on those two are low. They should also get some good playing time with Yao gone and since Rudy's finally aware that Collier sucks.

Edit: I omitted a street-talk quote that may not have been suitable to virgin eyes. I thought it was funny, personally. Others may not have, however, and out of respect for them I removed it. Admin, edit the thread title if you deem it too offensive.

A week from Tuesday? That would be two weeks from today.

Your way sounds a lot better. I don't want to wait two weeks, dammit!!! I want to start a negative thread NOW!

I think you need to update your vocabulary by removing the street talk! But I also can't last that long for the games to start!

What exactly do you mean? There's no need for me to update my vocabulary, it's even more expansive than that of a person who omits "street talk" due to the fact that they feel the need to conform with the rest of "intelligent" society. I honestly prefer not to limit myself to just one dialect. I'll speak Spanish with you, I'll utilize 'ebonics', I'll go vulgar...all in the same conversation. Why? Because my vocabulary's that "up-to-date," and my mind is that open. Narrow-mindedness is a disease, don't let it get you too.

First you want to convince me that vulgarity is a "dialect" and then you want to convince me that if I am repulsed by outright vulgarity (used solely for it's shock value), then I am "narrow-minded"?

Have your Mother, Father, girlfriend and/or college professor read your post and tell you how proud they are of your liguistic excellence.

Matt Jackson on sportsradio 610 said that Mo Taylor may be the surprise player to watch. So I cant wait to see how far he's come along.

I'm already in the process of sending out the emails, brother. Any vulgar language I use is intended strictly for accentuation, as are things like the rolleyes in your post. I'm going to base my allegations of narrow-mindedness in the fact that people who aren't open to simple things such as the word 'penis' used in a non-scientific context are afraid of reality. No, I don't want to convince you of that. It is my opinion as yours is the opposite. I am reading and respecting yours for what it is: an objective opinion on my self-biased opinion. If I weren't open minded, I would reply to your post with a sequence of negative words followed by a rolleyes to show you how little your words meant to me. But I honestly do appreciate your words for their influence on my life, as I did when Yetti posted what he posted. If you look, my vulgar language has been removed from the original post as of 11:28 PM. That was before you posted anything here and directly after Yetti posted what he did. I don't expect a reply from you as there is nothing you can add to this thread other than bickering, and I've had my fair share of that from you tonight.
    :)
    P.S. - That's not a smart aleck smiley, that's a gracious smiley.

Actually, there is one more small comment to make.

An intelligent person (and you obviously have some language skills so I will include you in that group) would consider his/her audience and adjust accordingly. Since we are all basically strangers here, one might consider what level of language is the "common denominator".

Just my opinion but - a non-vulgar (or "scientific") word used in a vulgar manner is still vulgar. While a generally accepted phrase ("Collier sux") creates less repercussions.

While it is true that opinions are like ***holes...everyone has one, "when in Rome do as the Romans do" usually works wonders. :)

And, the reason for the thread....yes, I am also excited that NBA hoops actions is so close!!!

I really admire you, and you live in Austin:). We should get together on a gameday and go watch one somewhere. Apparently you have the patience to put up with me being a jerk, and you're one heck of an open-minded guy after all. Please accept my apologies for lashing out at you...I get touchy on that subject, and you were right when I was less than right (I'm too stubborn to admit I was all the way wrong:p).

Thanks for your feedback either way...check in on the Hangout forum occasionally and see if I start a thread trying to unite Austinites for a game. Rockets fans are a rare breed over here, especially ones with as admirable attributes as yourself.

I think we're going to sweep the preseason. Our camp is going to be so competitive. Cato wants to keep starting and is going to work for it. Glen Rice, Eddie Griffin, Maurice Taylor, Kenny Thomas, and Bostjan Nachbar are all fighting for 2 spots which can be had by any 2 of the 5. Can Mo Taylor play preseason? As for the backcourt, I hope we don't have any mishaps. At PG, we're strong, we have lots of players. At SG though, I hope to see Torres earning his contract.

This will be a good season, but there will be some ugly words from SOMEON if no trade happens. Too many players for everyone to be happy.

Man, less than a week before camp!! Hope you get some good access, Clutch. I always look forward to the info! I don't look forward to more "Off with Rudy's head! We lost a pre-season game!" and other such trivia, but it's OK... right now I can be as optimistic as I want. And I'm optimistic as hell.

just wanted to say you earned a lot of my respect just now (not that it really matters :p ). you must be a writer or something.

i, too, am all for using whatever modes of dialect deemed necessary to accentuate my point. if you can't handle a certain "word" and the general connotation society places on it, too bad. my mind is open enough to understand that words are just that - words. the meaning of the word if defined by the orator...not by the listener. if you're good enough to express those words in a manner that we can understand what you truly mean, i say go for it.

sorry bout the rant...writing's my passion, though.

When are the Asian games over so Yao can sign a damn contract? I thought he was only supposed to miss the first two weeks of camp so that leaves 5 preseason games that he might be able to play in.
