Bladder cancer. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504763_162-20021319-10391704.html Sad to see this, he was one of my very favorites from back in the day. Stinks to see someone lose their life at such a young age.
One of the original enforcers..... You didn't get an easy lay up with Lucas under the basket... He would probably average 20 plus rebounds a game against these soft PF's today...
My favorite Blazer of all time. I'll never forget the finals against the Sixers. I thought the Blazers were dead after going down 0-2. Near the end of game 2, Darryl Dawkins got into a scuffle with either Larry Steele or Bob Gross. He ended up accidently tagging his own teammate (Doug Collins) with a jab. Lucas then came up behind Dawkins, popped him in the back of the head and they squared off for a few seconds before being broken up. Some people think that sequence changed the course of the series. That Blazers team was one of my all-time favorite non-Rockets championship teams. Their chemistry was amazing.
Thats what we get for Americans (fastfood etc) basketball can be stress as an athlete maintaining their body mass but life after basketball ..... chuck it all you got without worries .
"Basketball great Maurice Lucas was once "The Enforcer," but in the end, bladder cancer was the victor against the 58-year-old who was a fan favorite with the Portland Trailblazers" really?? and this guy gets paid to do this for a living! bad taste!
In a lot of cases, we can. But cancer isn't cancer isn't cancer, and the progression at the time of discovery is a critical factor. With bladder cancer, those that are diagnosed early enough that the cancer is relatively contained (Stage I) have a 88% 5-year survival rate. If it's at stage IV (spreading), it's 15%
i strictly meant looks, i never saw him play. All i can infer from his nickname was that he was an enforcer, something Josh Smith tends to be every now and then
