When and what activity have you been in a complete zone. I'm really interested in the psyche of being in the zone, have been for years. It seems I have an autotelic(These personality traits include curiosity, persistence, low self-centeredness)I would suppose ), and a high rate of performing activities for intrinsic reasons only. People with most of these personality traits are said to have an autotelic personality.) Wiki, lol. So I catch zone a lot, in a myriad of activities, caught it this morning vacuuming, lol So, what say you? What qualifies as a zone to you as well? Edit: Sounds arrogant, ah, damn. I didn't mean it to be a thread about me, I wanted to see what other peoples experiences of being in the zone, differed or correlated with mine. People, don't be shy.
I guess i'm like that...but the problem can be that you're often content or you appear to settle a lot. I'm not sure what you mean by "zone" though I'm thinking basketball, but i'm not sure how that applies to this.
After googling briefly...i guess mowing the lawn could be one...i feel good mowing it perfectly...i always do it vertically, going over the same area twice, forward and backward...stuff like that? If not, then let's go with basketball. I'm always in the zone there
I've caught zone on Madden, yeah... It's kind of action of inaction" or "doing without doing" that greatly resembles the idea of flow. lol wiki, but I get it and it's implications.
After reading this..does sound just like me too 1.Clear goals (expectations and rules are discernible and goals are attainable and align appropriately with one's skill set and abilities). Moreover, the challenge level and skill level should both be high.[5] 2.Concentrating, a high degree of concentration on a limited field of attention (a person engaged in the activity will have the opportunity to focus and to delve deeply into it). 3.A loss of the feeling of self-consciousness, the merging of action and awareness. 4.Distorted sense of time, one's subjective experience of time is altered. 5.Direct and immediate feedback (successes and failures in the course of the activity are apparent, so that behavior can be adjusted as needed). 6.Balance between ability level and challenge (the activity is neither too easy nor too difficult). 7.A sense of personal control over the situation or activity. 8.The activity is intrinsically rewarding, so there is an effortlessness of action. 9.A lack of awareness of bodily needs (to the extent that one can reach a point of great hunger or fatigue without realizing it) 10.People become absorbed in their activity, and focus of awareness is narrowed down to the activity itself, action awareness merging.
In the Zone: Playing Civilization Re-learning web design and learning Photoshop Working with my hands building whatever- tech, a fence, drywall, whatever. A good run or workout In the past- I would get into the zone in sales. It felt like I was magic or a hypnotist the way my sales would just come in at such a high rate. I would look up and the entire day had gone by. EDIT- After reading about autotelic personalities, I'd say it fits me pretty well, too.
