Oh, you mean like the 92 blazers team that had a 20 pt lead with jordan on the bench and they started playing grab ass and lost the lead and evcentually the series? What about the kings team that had the lakers dead to rights,but couldn't secure a rebound. Don't make it sound like he's taking some average teams to greatness and they got foiled because they were average anyway. Adelamn had some really,really good teams he messed off. The 91 blazers had no excuse for losing to the lakers that year and neither did the 90 blazers to the pistons. There is alway a coaching moment that he blows and his team loses. Karl and adelaman are coaches that will only get you so far, but he's not entirely at fault for the start of this team.
Daryl Morey has been Daryl Morey. Daryl is who we thought he was. The thing I dislike about Adelman this year (really the only thing so far) is during training camp and preseason he was complaining and fussing about the trip to China and how it takes away from practice time and how that will mess up preparation for the regular season la la la ect... What that did is put the players on this team in excuse mode before the season even begun... an excuse mode in a sense to accept that they won't be as ready for the season as they could be... that went down from the coach to the players. The "THAT" turned out to be losses which today is 0-3 to start the season. Adelman should not have done that imo! The team should have took the losses to San Antonio and Dallas in the preseason more serious as well. That's behind us and at this point we need to prepare to win games... get on a winning streak.
You're on fire lately, and you've hit so many problems right on the head. So much so, that even RA admitted that he should have played Patrick Patterson. We absolutely need consistency, and I can't help but think that Morey's handling of contracts is going to become more and more of a problem as well. In the league now, where stars get what they want, why should a star come here to get Brooks'ed or McGrady'ed? No reason for that to happen.
Thanks you for the kind words....and I too believe that Morey is making a mistake with his no extensions stance. NBA players can see what is going on, why come to Houston when you have a center with glass feet, who clogs the lane, and doesn't play more than 24 minutes? Until Yao is healthy, or done, we are what we are and will need to get better in the draft. DD
3 games into the season people! 3! and all of this talk about firing the coach, firing the GM, contracts, please. You are the same people that were riding nuts when we won 22 in a row with some of these same players and the same coach. So chill and give the team some time to gel and figure this Yao thing out. It's not the coach, its having to try to figure out what rotations to play, with and without Yao. Who else is having to deal with such a thing right now? It's going to take some time.
I am not sure about benching, but I would like the rotation shrunk a bit, and older players moving aside a bit for younger up and coming ones. DD
Only 2 true ensemble teams have every done it, the 2005 Pistons and the 1979 Supersonics. The Pistons though were not constructed like the Rockets. It was 5 very good to all star caliber players who played most of the time with 2-3 players who would spell them for brief moments. In regular season, the 5 starters averaged 30+ MPG, and 3 others just under 20 MPG, but by those three subs were only getting 11-15 MPG depending on situation. Depth of the starters was present without an alpha dog, but not for a 2-deep. The Supersonics may be more applicable. Again this was a team with many good to all star caliber players, but they seemed to have more depth. Because of injuries and rotations, 8 players averaged 24+ MPG and 3 others still saw 12-17 MPG in the regular season. Given the Rockets' players propensity for injury or trades, that is an allotment I could easily foresee for the Rockets. However, when the playoffs arrived, the rotation dropped to a more common 7 man rotation with starters receiving 34+ MPG and only 2 other players seeing more than 10 MPG.
well let's look at the minutes per games played and we'll use hayes for damp. battier 27.8 v. bud 20 martin 33.6 v. lee 17 miller 14.6 v. hill 1.2 hayes 23.3 v. ppat 0 maybe adjust bud and battier to equal minutes? other than that maybe give ppat 6 mpg and take some from hayes and scola? i honestly don't know where you can get "extra" minutes from unless you just bench miller and hayes and cut back on scola's minutes.
I am not sure I have the answer either Robbie, but the rotation should shrink IMO, and the minutes for CBud should be higher than Battiers....IMO as well. DD
i agree with that, but i don't really know how much of a difference that makes....who knows! also it feels like we have too many spare parts with miller, jeffries, and dampier. i don't really understand why we even signed dampier. we've got 2 young bigs and we just signed 2 bigs that are on their way to the glue factory. i dunno...i guess i am bit disappointed too that ppat and hill haven't got more minutes. i'm also disappointed that we haven't played defense or figured out a way to win a game yet. anyhow, it would be nice if martin could knock down a 3 point shot consistently too.
The reason we're 0-3 is simple...point-guard play. AB is not a natural point guard. We need a General to lead the team, especially when the team goes out of sync during the game (we've seen that the first 3 games). AB is a shooting guard in a point-guard body and he should be used as a Sixth man, similar to how the Mavericks are utilizing Jason Terry and how the Hawks utilize Jamal Crawford. Since T-Mac left the Rockets, we have yet to fill the void of a play-maker that not only can create their own shot, but also set up shots for their teammates. Kevin Martin is close to that type of player, but honestly, he's no Tracy McGrady when he was healthy...at least Rafer Alston ran the offense efficiently, we know he couldn't hit the open shot, but at least he was a TRUE point guard.
Good thread. One more thing, WHISLE is the big X factor in NBA. Most of the times THE WHISLE will favor the team with one or more STAR players............NBA is a business behind game.
Funny how the OP and other posters have been screaming for Rick to play our young studs like Hill and Pat. I thought Rick was the master of developing young guys? I thought JVG was the only coach in the world that didn't play rookies right away? What is going on here?!?! He even brought in a couple Ex-Kings.....like JVG did with the ex-Knicks!!
That is true. B But not a surprise, NBA has been all about STAR SWINGMEN for like a long time. Even Yao, if I remember correctly, himself predicted big men will be history of NBA spotlight.

So many guys think we can win hoosers style if we just have a bunch of dedicated unselfish players. The proofs is in the pudding. No team can win like that. Because of NBA defenses are so good especially in the 4th quarter that you need ultra talent to just get a good shot off. This ain't college basketball. We need some super-star talent. And that's the biggest issue with this team. When T-mac left, this was the known result. Unless we get that kind of talent to put us on par with Miami, L.A., or Boston, we will never be a contender.
